Does the free version work with 4K files? For some reason I thought the free version only worked with HD files. (Maybe I am thinking of lightworks).

I don't think I'd be doing any conversion before grading, and you don't need a converter anyway.

Skibum has the right idea - whether you're using ColorDirector or Resolve - import the 4K clip(s) and do your colour correction THEN produce to H.264 MP4 1920x1080 with the same framerate as the original clips & at whatever bitrate your final video will be.

After that you can import all your 1080 colour graded clips into PDR for editing.

That's what I'd do anyway.

HandShake, oops i mean HandBrake & RMMC (RockyMountains Movie Converter) v2.

RMMC does ProRes 422 & 444.

Thanks, that sounds simple enought that maybe even I could do it.

Hopefully my computer will handle grading 4K.

And just to confirm (because I am a slow learner); I can produce directly from ColorDirector down to 1080p???

I happen to find a program called Free Video DVD Converter Ultimate that has the perfect support for 4K XAVC S, it also allows to you compress 4K to 1080p by lowering the output video resolution as 1080p or 720p. The CyberLink PowerDirector 12 Ultra and later version has native support for 4K resoliution video, you don't need to compress 4K to 1080p.

Try Freemake Video Converter.

But I recommend Cyberlink MediaEspresso. Buy PowerDVD on the Cyberlink site that has this software as a free bonus. It is cheaper.

Quite recently I looked up the site for downloading DaVinci Resolve after seeing it demo'd on YouTube. So far, so good. Tried to download as prescribed by the YT vid..... BRICK WALL! Only got as far as filling in details, there was nowhere to click to initiate the download. After about 5 or 6 attempts I gave up. Can't be bothered! I don't care if I never hear about this software ever again... I'll stick with Power Director. I've got PD8 and PD14 on my computer, they'll do me!

TEncoder Video Converter, which is free, might be helpful.

There are many online apps can do the video conversion for you, such as zamzar, Acethinker Video Converter, mediaconverter, etc. They are totally free, and you don't have to download or install anything.
