Hi,
Neil, the thread and samples have been referred to CL - I did that as soon as you replicated the issue.

Kmot, Thank you for providing so much information. Please make sure you submit a support ticket to CyberLink please.
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do

Neil & Kmot, I see you both had to re-boot to get PD to activate again. there should be no need.
1. Ctrl+Alt+delete will bring up Task Manager
2. Applications display: Highlight, PDr10 and select End Task.
3. Processes tab: Scroll down and locate PDR10.exe, highlight and select End Process.
4. Close Task Manager.

PDr10 should now open when selected.

As suggested CTRL+ALT+DEL does not shut PD10 off all the time. Reboot is the only sure option PC specs :

A "press button" re-boot is not always necessary. If you follow the directions given, you will note the Task Manager, Processes route offers an alternative in how to close a stalled program. A straight re-boot is a clumsy shut down of one's computer and is a final solution. The information presented is one you should try first.

Hi Dafydd

Yes I did all of the above but when I double clicked the PD icon on your desk top it failed to open - hence the restart.

Thanks for passing clips onto CL Happing editing

I submitted a tech support ticket, and in the description I referenced this thread.

My response from tech support was to give them some basic info and screen shots, all of which have been supplied in this thread by multiple members.

I am not convinced tech support has even bothered to look at this thread. ~Tom~

Hi,
Online support might not have looked but CyberLink, Head Office, Customer Support have.

Without me going through the thread again. Please confirm whether you can produce an Mpeg4, selecting "Best Quality" and Hardware Acceleration or not?

Thanks

Hi Dafydd

I couldn't produce to that profile using the sample with H/A on or off.

More importantly when you chose Intelligent (LOL) SVRT mode the production would freeze at 23%.

Even more important good ol' PD8 would produce to any profile

Thought I would add my two cents on the GoPro file. Produced the following H.264AVC 1920/1080p 28mbps, MPEG-4 Best Quality,MPEG-2 DVD HQ and MOV. All had hardware acceleration on. ANY time Intelligent SVRT was applied, the GoPro clip failed to produce, stuck at 21%. I was able to cancel rendering but PD10 froze, some areas accessable, some not. I was able to Cont/Alt Del to stop the PD10 process from running and re-launch without issues. HP Envy 17

Hi Dafydd,

Negative, I cannot produce an MPEG-4 when my hardware acceleration is toggled "on".

I can, however, produce and MPEG-4 Best Quality when the hardware acceleration is toggled "off".

RESOLVED!

My issue has been resolved by Cyberlink tech support!

It may not apply to your issue, however, because we all have different computer systems and hardware.

In my particular case, tech support advised me to roll back my AMD graphics driver from the latest version, 12.4, to the previous version, 12.3.

I did that. I first completely uninstalled version 12.4 and then did a complete new install of version 12.3

I can now produce MPEG-4 with hardware acceleration toggled on.

I can also produce H264 with hardware acceleration toggled on.

I cannot use SVRT, still. I get frozen up at the 23% progress mark. I must use CTRL-ALT-DEL to shut down the program with Task Manager. This time I followed Dafydd's advice and searched as well under Processes and found "PDR10" running so I stopped it in Task Manager. I was then able to restart PowerDirector without having to reboot.

Some statistics:

Source - MP4
Production - MPEG-4
Length - 6 seconds
HA On - 11 seconds to render
HA off - 13 seconds to render

Source - MP4
Production - M2TS
Length - 6 seconds
HA On - 9 seconds to render
HA Off - 12 seconds to render

Source - AVI
Production - MPEG-4
Length - 3m:52sec
HA On - 7:39
HA Off - 8:54

Another thing that usually works (although it will close your other programs as well) is to log off and log back on again. That clears out all kinds of things throughout the system, including most network problems, and is always worth a shot. Jerry Schwartz

Hi,
Thank you for the follow ups.
CyberLink HO suspected it was a AMD driver issue regarding mp4. They replicated the GoPro produce fault.

Neil, we now have to switch to your issue. Please can you wipe the 12.4 drivers and roll back to an earlier release and see if that helps you? I'm concerned if any residual dll will be left by 12.4.

Thanks
Dafydd

For anyone with AMD having a problem with driver Version 12.4, here is a reply from AMD tech support to a letter I sent them:

Hello, I recently updated my driver to version 12.4 and afterward I discovered I had several problems producing edited video using Cyberlink Power Director. Cyberlink tech support discovered it was the driver, version 12.4, that was causing the issues and suggested I revert to Version 12.3 driver. I did so, and all the producing problems were resolved. Here is a thread on the Cyberlink forum discussing it: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/23329.page I thought AMD should be made aware of this and address the problem on their end. Regards, -Tom Keliher

Your service request : SR #{ticketno:[xxxxxxxxxx]} has been reviewed and updated.
Response and Service Request History:
I understand that updating to the 12.4 Catalyst suite has cause issues with Cyberlink Power Director, and that reverting to 12.3 has remedied this issue. If this is incorrect, please let me know as the information provided may change.
This is a known issue that the Catalyst team has been working on for our new 12.6 Catalyst Suite that was released this morning. They said that the issue should be resolved, but we have not had anyone try 12.6 and tell us that the issue is not resolved yet. If 12.3 is working for you and there are no issues, I would recommend sticking with 12.3, and only update if absolutely necessary. If you want to try the 12.6 Catalyst Beta Suite, you can find it at http://support.amd.com under Helpful Links. We thank you for bringing this to our attention, as we always look for feedback from our end users about how we can improve our products, or how we can repair errors that are introduced in new versions of our drivers.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reply to this e-mail directly and I will try to provide any additional information that you may require.
In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.
Best regards,

Hi,

This is almost certainly down to your ATI/AMD drivers. I know because I've just spent two hours sorting this mess out. I'm using Power Director 9 Ultra 64 with exactly the same problem. Rolling back to Catalyst 12.3 fixes the issue as has already been pointed out. Remove ALL your AMD/ATI Graphic Drivers and Install v12.3, it's that simple. I'm just adding my voice to those that have fixed it in a similar manner.

So who now blinks first, CyberLink or AMD/ATI?

Just wish I'd seen this thread earlier....... all that hard work Grrrrr lol
