I have two video clips both recorded by an unmoved camera. I need to crop one so that i can overlay it on top of the other, thus creating a slipt screen effect. Like this:

(see attechments)

but in video form.

Please tell me that the only way isn't to edit it in photoshop elements frame by frame.

PLease help!

Hi AnimeFreakatYoutube -

It looks like you don't need to crop anything - just mask one of the clips.

Two clips - one recorded as a plain scene with no action & the other has some old guy riding a mower through the scene. Both clips are shot from a tripod to ensure alignment!

""

Set up the timeline like this with the clips directly below each other...

""

Select the clip in Track 2 & click Modify > PiP Designer. Click Mask & mask part of the clip (uncheck Keep Aspect Ratio)

""

The result is that you can see "half" of one clip & "half" of the other...

Cheers - Tony

Know I could use .... a 'mower from nowhere' .... aka someone that would appear out of 'thin air' and mows my yard - around here sometimes... lol

Will that work in the USA Tony?

Hi, all!

Definitely shades of "Harry Potter" here with lawn-mowers appearing out of nowhere!laughing

Cheers!

Hello, Moderator!

When I get a message in my e-mail in-box stating: Your topic "How do I crop a video to create a screen split effect" (or any other topic) has received an answer since your last visit. You can access this message using the following link", this should mean that I've received a reply from someone else, not from myself, as has happened here. In any case I've already praised Tony's effect and am looking for an excuse(reason) to try it myself in a future video. It has great comic potential. This notification "glitch" happens quite a lot on this website, as I've noticed.

Cheers!

Neil.
