PhotoDirector Mobile – Could New “Effects” & “Overlays” be Found in PhD7?

The “mobile” version of CyberLink’s PhotoDirector now resides in all three mobile platforms (Android, iOS and Windows), and is simply named PhotoDirector Mobile (never forgetting where it came from). Since this “app” was built for the mobile world, think “touchscreen” like a phone or tablet, users can tap and quickly be done with their newly created photos. PhD Mobile doesn’t disappoint with its lightning-fast edits.

Those familiar with the parent app are used to the term “Presets.” The mobile app uses the term “Effects,” and presents a lot of them, found under these general categories:

Artistic

Lomo

B & W

HDR

Face

Vignette

Not counting the last category, found only in the Windows app, there are a total of 55 Effects -- some with rather unique names like Memory, Experience, Retro Wash, Chocolate, Isabelle and Mist (let alone the cool “effects” they actually do). Most cannot be found in the desktop software, unless you painstakingly take the time to create them yourself.

If you are used to working with the original piece of software on your computer, then the “Overlays” are another new feature found in the mobile offspring. While the Effects can change the tone, temperature and other adjustments in a “tap and done” fashion, the Overlays take a particular design and “lay” it “over” your photo. Choose from Light Leak, Grunge, Scratch and Lens Flare. You can even adjust the opacity.

For those who love their original PhotoDirector, updates should come in the next iteration. With such careful consistency implemented by CyberLink across all the mobile platforms, could we expect to see Effects and Overlays in PhD7?

I know I do. What do you think?
