Can't produce MP4 after Patch 1703 installed.

This clip is 1080P, 30FPS.

A comment about the GoPro camera:

It is hugely popular around the world. Even professional videographers, television, and movie productions use the camera. Yes I have seen that many use other software programs to edit. But surely Cyberlink would not want their software to be shunned by potential thousands of users because "it don't work with PowerDirector! "

Thanks again all for your help.

Kmot et al -

Ah - PowerDirector! Consistent one day, inconsistent the next!

Again, using the supplied clips from Kmot:
GOPR0001.MP4 (MediaInfo - 1280x720 @ 15.4MBps 59.94fps)
GOPR0002.MP4 (MediaInfo - 1920x1080 @ 15.6MBps 29.97fps)
GOPR0004.MP4 (MediaInfo - 1280x720 @ 10.6MBps 29.97fps)

I was able to produce each clip, without any issue, to a variety of MPEG-4 profiles... with & without hardware acceleration. I used PD's default profiles & also customised bitrates & framerates to match the original clips.

Given the disparity in findings in this thread, you'd have to say that Kmot's issue isn't inherent in PD10.

Unhappily, I discovered that PD9 has decided to do its "stopped working" trick every time I hit produce!

Cheers - Tony

P.S. DxDiag reports attached, just in case they point us to a resolution.

I just played with Gopro 002 clip.

I could not produce MP4 with hardware accelerator on, even with a color board inserted first.

I could not produce an H264 (mts) under any circumstance.

I was able to produce MPG2 with hardware acceleration on.

I was able to produce MP4 with hardware acceleration turned OFF.

Other formats would produce as normal.

Kmot I download your files and did a test with both of them. Here is a video of my test. I thing did goof up I that the 720p was 60 fps. Here is a link to my test.
https://vimeo.com/42991601

I will say after I made the screen capture of me making the test I went back and made did a test with a title screen in front of the clip. When I did that I could use the Intel Quick Sync in H264/AVC , Mpeg 2 and MP4 right from the start. It gets me. Intel i7 5960X overclock to 4 Ghz 16 GB of ram.

Michael, I have watched 6 minutes so far. Yeah I noticed you thought this clip was 60FPS. Didn't seem to make any difference. I will watch the rest later, I am in the middle of smoking a tri-tip right now for our dinner.

I would really like to know, how you are able to video your desktop and the work you are doing? ~Tom~

Hi

The plot thickens

GOPR0002.MP4 (PD Properties - 1920x1080 @ 15.54MBps 29.97fps) - RESULTS

Intelligent SVRT - Froze at 23% - Ctrl- Alt - Delete- End with Task Manager -PD still running - had to restart computer before I could open PD again

AVI DV AVI - Produced no issues

MPEG-2 DVD HQ, BD 1440x1080, BD 190 x 1080 - Hardware Acceleration Enabled - Instant error message "Error making movie" click OK and resumed back to project

MPEG-2 DVD HQ, BD 1440x1080, BD 190 x 1080 - Hardware Acceleration Disabled - 'Hanging 0% - cancel Producing was able to return to Project OK.

AVCHD - Same results to MPEG

Note after changing Hardware Acceleration to either enable or disable had the 'Hanging 0% - cancel Producing was able to return to project

WMV - Produced no issues

MPEG-4 Best Quality MPEG-4 - Produced no issues

GOPR0004.MP4 (PD Properties - 1280x720 @ 10.75MBps 29.97fps) - RESULTS

Intelligent SVRT - Froze at 30% - Ctrl- Alt - Delete- End with Task Manager -PD still running - had to restart computer before I could open PD again

ALL OTHER FORMATS HAD SAME RESULTS AS ABOVE

I THEN USED POWERDIRECTOR 8 FOR BOTH FILES AND PRODUCED IN ALL FORMATS - NO PROBLEMS AT ALL

SUMMARY on my set up

1. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH "INTELLIGENT SVRT" ON THESE CLIPS

2. THERE IS AN INCONSISTENCY WITH THE PD ERROR WHEN PRODUCING TO MPEG OR AVCHD REGARDING H/A ON OR OFF

3. POWERDIRECTOR 8 WORKS FINE PRODUCING ALL THESE CLIPS IN WHATEVER FORMAT YOU WANT!!!

Note for Forum Moderator: I would suggest that these clips are given to CL R&D to test - as GoPro is one of those 'action' cameras that should be in every adventure video editor's tool bag, it's a shame that PD10 can't keep up

I tried SVRT and like Cubby it hung at 23% and I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL to end the frozen screen and re-boot to enable PD10 again.

Using the 1080 clip, and with hardware acceleration turned OFF, I was able to produce movies in all formats except MPEG-1 which it says it does not support.

With hardware acceleration enabled, both H264 and MPEG-4 gave me the "Unable to produce movie" dialog box but I was able to return to the producer. The other formats, if hardware acceleration was available, produced okay.

Why I was able to produce in H264 this time, I do not know. Perhaps it was because the format is different, 1080P versus 720P.

I noticed on Michaels video he has a toggle called "Intel Quick Link" which is a proprietary Intel processor thing. My toggle is merely called "hardware acceleration" and does not identify that it is an AMD processor.

On one of your productions Michael you questioned "why did it produce this time and not before? What is different?"

The only thing I could notice different was that when you renamed the file you cut off the "." and left "mp4" and so the filed got named "testmp4.mp4" and then it went ahead and produced it in MP4. Could the name have fooled it some how?

This is slightly off-topic (maybe), but is it necessary for you to have shadow files turned on? I noticed that on your most recent screen shot.

I can't remember the specs of your PC, but maybe it's unnecessary for you. If you wish, you can turn them off in Preferences > General > Enable HD video processing.

Cheers - Tony

I just looked in the 300 page PowerDirector10 manual and there is no mention of "shadow file" that I can find.

Where else should I look? ~Tom~

Found it!

I don't recall ever having clicked on the question mark at the top of PowerDirector's frame.

It has a lot of useful info, more so I think than the "book" we can download. Well, maybe just different.

So, why would I switch shadows either on, or off? To save CPU processing power. How would I know if I need to save it?

Keep in mind that for the past three years I was using a computer that was blazing fast at everything. But now I have bought into what is apparently only a mediocre computer. So I need to start turning things on or off, lol...

Hi Kmot -

The shadow files option is really for PCs that would have trouble editing with HD clips. When it's turned on, it allows you to do your editing with lower resolution mpeg-2 files to decrease the load on your GPU & CPU... when you produce it uses the original clips.

Most users I know have that option turned off because their PCs can handle editing HD clips. Shadow files have been known to cause problems, but NOT if they're turned off.

Post you DxDiag & members would probably be able to say whether you'd be best to turn that option off (or not).

Cheers - Tony

Tony, I am confused. (Nothing new here!)

I want to be able to edit HD video. I find the wording of this 'shadow file' thing confusing. Should it be checked, or unchecked, in order for me to edit my HD videos?

Thanks!

Hi Kmot

I hope I'm not jumping in on Tony's excellent work - but UNCHECK that box - so there is NO tick in it.

Hope this helps, oh and I hope the Moderator has sent your clips to CL R&D for further testing

Happy editing Happing editing

Yes Tom -

Agree with Neil. Uncheck the box in preferences. Your PC, based on your DxDiag, looks like it'd handle HD editing without using shadow files.

I wasn't trying to distract from the original issue - just pointing out something else.

Neil - thank you & you can jump wherever you want!

Hi,
Neil, the thread and samples have been referred to CL - I did that as soon as you replicated the issue.

Kmot, Thank you for providing so much information. Please make sure you submit a support ticket to CyberLink please.
http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do

Neil & Kmot, I see you both had to re-boot to get PD to activate again. there should be no need.
1. Ctrl+Alt+delete will bring up Task Manager
2. Applications display: Highlight, PDr10 and select End Task.
3. Processes tab: Scroll down and locate PDR10.exe, highlight and select End Process.
4. Close Task Manager.

PDr10 should now open when selected.

Dafydd
