Dragging transitions to timeline

I'm just beginning to work with Power Director 12. Stymied right off when trying to drag transitions to the timeline. No matter how many times I drag them, they do not appear in the timeline. Seems like such a simple matter. What might be the problem here?

Hi,

You first need to drag a video clip to the timeline. Split that clip and *then* drag your transitions onto the clip or in between the clips.
See the following tutorial for more information- this was done in PD 11 but same procedures apply:

Hi Rob,

Thank you for responding. I guess the problem may have been that I was trying to create like an opening and was wanting to begin with one of those transition effects that would transition into a logo image, i.e., not a clip that I could split.

Sounds like that's not possible I guess. Is there a different way to go that would have a similar type result?

Just insert a black image and transition to the first clip. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

To add to Gary's post-
an easy way of doing this is to use PD's own Color Boards. Drag the Black color board 0.0.0 to the timeline and set the Duration to how long you want the black space shown before and after your video clips:
