Frame rate

When inserting HD video on the timeline I frequently see...
"The frame rate of the video you are importing (29.97 FPS) does not match with the current frame rate setting (29.97 FPS)"... Huh?

Or it may say...
"The frame rate of the video you are importing (30 FPS) does not match with the current frame rate setting (29.97 FPS)"...

In OPTIONS|GENERAL I see only 30 and 60 FPS for NTSC. Where can 29.97 (or other rates) be set?

Just set "Use drop frame timecode" to "Yes"

Understood, and already at the YES default. But it made no difference; both prompts were exactly as described in either mode.

"The frame rate of the video you are importing (29.97 FPS) does not match with the current frame rate setting (29.97 FPS)."
This makes no sense. What does it mean and what should be done about it?

The second message, "...30 FPS does not match with the current 29.97 FPS" also doesn't compute, since PD is set to 30 FPS/drop frame (the YES choice) in OPTIONS and there is no 29.97 setting.

If the FR option is set to NTSC 60, PD will prompt that the project rate is 59.94, whether drop/non-drop is set to YES or NO
What's being overlooked here? Or is this an anomaly in the program?

When frame rates truly don't match, is independent conversion of the clips required prior to PD11 import?
And what of editing in 24P or working with 24P clips?

True, and I alluded to that in the second post, which was an attempt to elaborate on this thread, after amending it generated little response. Forgive the breach.

Apparently no one can say whether frame rate disparities should be rectified prior to editing. Or how PD handles 24P (if at all).

Thanks for your thoughts...and feel free to kill this thread if that's within your purview.
