Inserting Chapters

Hi Again,

In the chapters room there are three options:

- Insert a chapter at the start of each clip;

- Insert chapters at fixed intervals; and

- Insert chapters evenly.

I want to insert chapters manually, where I want them.

How do you do this?

Thanks Again.

I presume your video is not split at this point is one big file.

Well, SPLIT your video manually at the begining of each intended chapter, then use "Insert a chapter at the start of each clip"

Voila - you just manually split and assigned chapters. Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

Andy,

Thanks for the reply. Actually it is 30+ short clips. So I am putting together the related clips and want each "section" to be achapter.

I tried highliting several clips in the Main Timeline and tried to combine them but the option "Combine" doesn't seem to be available?

I just don't want to have like 50 chapters which I have to go into and remove 45 of them manually.

Please see the picture.

Man I love the snipping tool of Windows 7!! Unfortunately the forum doesn't seem to be taking the picture (it's a JPEG less than 200KB?)

If, in chapter room, you click "Insert a chapter at the start of each clip" I believe you will get your 30+chapters, one per every clip of yours. Have you not tried it yet?

Hi Andy,

Yes, I understand that. But what I want to do is group a bunch of the clips under 1 chapter and then another bunch under another chapter and so on. So that I would have only 4 - 5 chapters for the 40+ individual clips.

OK, say your video is 50min long. You want 5 chapters that is on average 10min per chapter = 50mins / 5 chapters .

if you go to chapter room and select the second option, "insert chapters at fixed intervals" then type in 10mins and confrirm - 5 chapters will be created at every 10min interval. Grab each chapter above the timeline and drag it to the desired position. Start it from the end.

Done! Just do the math.

Hi Tony B & Andy -

It's really not that hard. There are 30+ clips but you don't want 30+ chapters. You want clips to be grouped in a chapter.

By the way, Combine only works when you want to merge previously split sections of a clip.

OK - Take the 30+ clips and decide how you'd like them grouped. Let's say it's going to be 1-5, 6-13, 14-19, 20-27, 28-30+. It doesn't matter.

Place the scrubber/cursor/blue line marker at the start of the first clip. Add a chapter. ie. Click the button that has C+ on it.
Place the scrubber/cursor/blue line marker at the start of clip 6. Add a chapter...
Carry on till you have your chapters set, named and ready.

That's one way to do it...

Cheers - Tony

BTW The size limit on attachments is 100KB. You can attach 3 to a post.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for that. I guess I just didn't see the C+ button. Will look for it. I knew this should be simple. Thanks for the info on "Combine".

Andy,

Thanks for the help.

Cheers

Tony, what can I say, "Bravo". That "C+" button has never caught my eye before. Now I know how to add a chapter with a pin-point accuracy. Cheers. Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.
