Cannot load audio tracks from GoPro camera video

Hi Everyone,

I have 2 GoPro (Clone) cameras (an Akaso V50X) and whenever I import the video from this camera the Audio Track is blank. It will not play from either the Preview Window or play when it is inserted into the Track Window. I am using PowerDirector 15 as well as other video editing programs like Sony Vegas Pro 14.0 and Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.03 and I have the same problem with them as well. The only thing I can think of that might be wrong, is that this camera does not use a "STANDARD" MP4 format, but I could be wrong about this...

Please Help???

Here is the media info on the file I am trying to import:

Thanks...

Joe...

Can you attach say a sample 10 sec original clip with audible sound, the same as 720/60p in your mediainfo. Can you also attach a sample video at the native 4K 30fps resolution so users here can check it out on PD15 and later PD versions.

Hi,

I have uploaded 2 Video files. They are as follows:

NORM0001.MP4 = 4K 30FPS Video

and

NORM0002.MP4 = 720 60FPS Video

Both videos have Audio when playing from the camera. I have not tried to import either of these videos into PowerDirector or any other Video Editor, so I am unsure if they will work or not.

I hope that you can figure this problem out as it is extremely frustrating…

Thanks…

Joe Schutts

The MediaInfo profile of the NORM0001.MP4 clip matches what you posted earlier. On my system, each of your sample clips play fine in PD365 - but there is no sound in PD13, PD14 or PD17 even though each version displays the audio waveform when the clips are placed on the timeline.

I used the free Handrake app to convert each clip using the Production Standard profile and only tweaked the average video bitrate to match the original clip, like this one for NORM0001.mp4:

You'll want to enter "30300" for the NORM0002.mp4 clip to match the original bitrate. Also make sure you have the Framerate (FPS) setting set to Same as source.

I've attached the converted clips for you to test, and unfortunately you'll need to convert each clip to get viable sound unless you upgrade to a newer version like PD20/365.

I have the same findings as optodata that there is no audio with the original clips in PD15 but have audio in PD365. The original recorded audio level is low. With the handbrake converted clip on the PD15 timeline, Right mouse click/Edit audio/WaveEditor allows a max +12 db volume boost. The audio mixing room max audio boost is also +12 db if desired to raise the audio volume. See the circled area in the PD15 screenshot.

The volume issue probably part after effects as the conversion that was done appears to have lost L/R channels of original and now just a single center mono channel.

Hi,

Ok I think I got what you're saying, but correct me if I'm wrong.

What you're saying is that I have to load ANY AND ALL video files into Handbrake and then convert them??? This sucks... What I'm trying to figure out is whether or not Akaso is (or isn't) using a "STANDARD MP4" Format on their cameras???

It seems to me that I "SHOULD" be able to load ANY video files into whichever Video Editor program I choose, and it should load correctly, but this isn't happening. I'm just trying to figure out WHY this is... Now don't get me wrong, I truely appreaciate both your time AND your help that you've taken in this matter, but again I'm still trying to figure out WHAT is causing this problem and if there is something Akaso can do to FIX this problem like a software patch or a firmware update or something.

I know (I for one), don't want to waste another $100 on another camera, just to find out that it doesn't preform the way it should, or doesn't do what it's supposed to do. It seems as if I'll just have to consider just what options are available to me.

Right now I have 3 action cameras total, (2 Akaso V50X's and 1 Eken 4K action camera). About the only difference between the 2 cameras, is that the Akaso cameras offer "Image Stabizalation" while the Eken Camera does not have this feature. Also the Akaso cameras save their video files in an "MP4" Format, while the Eken camera saves it's files in "MOV" Format. Now I have absolutely NO problems loading any of the Eken's video files into Cyberlink PowerDirector. I just wish the Akaso cameras did this as well.

Anyway, thanks again for your help in this matter...

Take care...

Joe...

The short answer is there is no "standard MP4" (aka universally compatible) format that every single device can play. The sheer number of different combinations of audio and video encoders out there that comply with the MP4 requirements is enormous.

For whatever reason Akaso chose an audio format that many video editors aren't able to work with, so you'll have to decide whether it's worth the time to convert every single clip from that camera before editing or find another camera vendor/model that creates clips your desired video editors can work with.

Joe, it appears that V50X can record video in H.264 or H.265 with default being H.264 per the manual. You might try the H.265 option and see if your version of PD can properly load that file. I would not use HandBrake on your current files as audio is reduced from current stereo to mono as it appears the audio tracks are not properly handled.
