Update: 2220c Failure… Lags/Freezes

First off I’d like to say that the laptop I’m using originally came with Vista-32 bit and 2 gigs of ram, Core 2 Duo (1.5 GHz) and 128 MB dedicated video. I’ve upgraded the ram to 4 gigs and installed Windows 7-64 bit, surprisingly I have been able to edit AVCHD files from my Canon VIXIA HF200 with little troubles other than the usual PowerDirector 8 crash if I perform operations too fast… You’d think it would be the other way around.
My problem… Installed the update 2220c and now the program lags or there are short freezes when performing any function whatsoever, no crashes as of yet… And this is when doing a simple slideshow with photos only, not even going to think about trying to edit AVCHD video (did a little low res video with similar issues) as I’ve done before until I’ve rolled back to the previous version. Anybody else experience this type of issue with the latest update?

PS I have a desktop that is more than capable but have not applied the update to it as of yet, not sure I will either.

Hi Dan,

I have been running version 2220c since December 3rd and have not seen the problem you describe. I am running it on a fairly modest system similar to your laptop.

I edit HD video with it....mostly smaller projects and it has run without a single crash during that time.

Have you tried a thorough Uninstall and Reinstall to see if the problem is corrected? It sounds to me though, that your video card is struggling to keep up as it is on the lower end. Just a guess from a Non-techy point of view.

Others may chime in to offer more specific information.

Clean up your system CCleaner will help or the Windows cleaner. Defrag might help. Improve your graphics card.

Your system will struggle to edit 1080 footage - it's not powerful enough.

What's this "128 MB dedicated video", if that's your graphic's set up you're in trouble?

Thank for the quick replay... As to your question I have not done a uninstall/reinstall as of yet but will shortly, just a shame this had to happen when all was working decent... You know what they say "if it ain't broke don't fix it" lol.

I understand what you are saying in regards to my laptops specs being on the low side but as mentioned in my initial post it worked surprisingly well, nothing has really changed since then. As with all computers things do go awry for no apparent reason and the quick solution is to reinstall, could do some investigating but from my experience I’ll end up spending more time that it’s worth.

Tempted to give the patch a go on my desktop… Q9550 (2.83 GHz), 8 Gigs ram, 512 MB dedicated video… If all went well then obviously something went amiss on my notebook and if not, problem with patch… That’s my way of thinking considering what I know in regards to my PCs past performance.

Thanks for your response... I agree with you that my notebook does not meet the criteria but if you read my initial post you’ll see that this happens while doing a simple slideshow with photos only, a 5 minute piece with music. Editing AVCHD files created in MXP mode at 24 Mbps wasn’t as much of a pain as one would think, surprised the heck out of me… Of course I wasn’t able to multi-task with the PC either when PD8 was processing any data.
As for the problem, just going to “Help”, “About” will cause the program to freeze big time to the point I have to force a shutdown PD8, other actions are a little more forgiving allowing the program to recover in short order, “any” other function initiated causes small lags/freezes… All of my other programs are running normally as they were before.

I can assure you that all my computers are working at their best as I’m constantly on top of regular maintenance, very adamant about that.

I get the same result when I click on HELP>ABOUT....it freezes and forces me to have to manually shut down Power Director.

Performed an uninstall/restart/reinstall along with the 2220 update (not 2220c), encountered the same issues as before (lagging/freezes). Once more performed the operation as above but this time left it at the 1930 build, all seems to be working as should now albeit I’m expecting more crashes if I perform operations too quickly. Will wait and see if an updated patch newer than 2220c comes fourth before venturing further.
Not sure why patch 2220 started to cause issues all of a sudden but from what I’m reading there are a few issues of various natures cropping up with the 2220c patch, good to know I’m not the only one lol.
