Audio/video sync problems

I have PD8 set up on 2 different computers, my desktop & my wife's laptop. We are experiencing some serious audio/video out of sync problems.
My settings,
In the "Profile" selections:
Under Quality Profile Setup
AVI -- Windows -- AVI High Quality Profile

In the "Settings" of the Quality Profile Setup:
I'm using ffdshow codec, the codec settings I know little or nothing
about (closer to nothing) so everything is set at what I presume is default, whatever was there when I installed it from the MS Windows 7 codec webpage.

In the Audio/Video setup I have selected:
Frame(s) 29.7 (True NTSC)
Video Size: 640X480
True color (only selection available)
Audio Format MPEG Layer 3
Attributes 24000Hz Mono, 40 kbps

In Settings I am using Dazzle DVC100, which has worked well in
the past, seems to be OK now.

I am capturing from a cable TV cable box DVR and she is capturing from a DV being played in a DV player.
I configured her settings same as mine. Many of them, I quite frankly admit, I don't really know why I have them set that way, but I have experimented with various settings just hoping like a babe in the woods to hit upon a winning combination.
Can someone please come to our rescue??? Both computers are new, running Windows 7, plenty of memory & drive space (both have external HDDs attached with 750G & 2T capacity)
Thanks very much, Tom

Are you capturing to the external drives?
USB is not fast enough. They should be connected by Firewire or e-sata.
Download Ccleaner and Defraggler, run them both.
Clean out your temp folder.

These may not be the solution, but it is a start. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.

Thanks Barry. Unfortunately, USB is the only way I know to capture from an analog device. Dazzle only has a USB input. I have a firewire port and a 1394 cable, but no way to apply it to analog capture. And yes, I am capturing to an external 2TB Seagate FreeAgent drive, USB.

Here is what PD tech support told me:

--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Please follow the steps given below to disable UAC:

Point to Start --> Control Panel --> choose the option "User accounts and family safety" -->Choose "Credential manager".

Note : At the bottom left corner, you will find a option called "User accounts". Click on it.

Choose "User Account Control Settings" and drag the slider down to "Never notify".

2. Start Windows in Selective Startup mode.

a. Click on Start.
b. Click on Run.
c. Type msconfig and click on OK.
d. A System Configuration Utility window will come up.
e. On General tab, select Selective Startup.
f. Uncheck "Load Startup Items".
g. Click on Apply.
h. Click on OK.
i. Click on Close.
j. It will ask you to restart your computer. Click on "Restart".

Once computer restarts, try to use software and check for the result.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I did all this and captured 3½ hours from a local channel last night. I am VERY hard-of-hearing but it appears to me to be in sync, I'm pretty sure it is, but my wife will be the final judge. Her hearing is as good as mine is bad!

Even tho audio appears to be in sync, I still have a dropped frames problem (didn't mention this in my original post) Over the 3½ hours it dropped a tad over 300 frames.
I'll be working on that next. Several sources of information on the web, but none have given me a clue as yet to how to prevent it.

If it worked, that is very good info.
Please post your final results.

Spoke a mite too soon apparently.
The video/audio seems to be in sync at the beginning, near the end it's in perfect sync. In the middle, at about 2 hours into it, it's WAY out of sync. Weird. I dunno what the hey to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't matter I give up on PD. It's been nearly a month and
I'm within a couple of days of their 30-day money-back guarantee
period and it's just been one thing to be resolved after another and I'm tired of messing with it. Thanks for the help and the info anyways, but I gone!
