I've downloaded .vob files from a DVD to my hard drive. But when I try to bring them into PD it locks up (hourglass keeps running)
Am I doing something wrong?

Don't know.

What is the PowerDirector version and build you are using? Look in Help/About.

Where have you placed the vob file on your hard drive? In the My Works directory?

What's the size of the vob file?

What did you make this DVD with?

If this file isn't a "home-made" vob file then you're on your own.

First off, YES these are vob files from a homemade DVD.

It's PD 5.0 1808 Premium

I've placed it in a file I created under My Documents

The VOB file size is 1,048,018 KB

It was a DVD I burned from my DV recorder through a Panasonic DVD Player/Recorder

I'm just guessing.... and suggesting a few things.

The guesses:
Panasonic have stuck in an encryption capability to prevent copying.
The vob file is corrupt
The PowerDirector build version you have cant read vob files (please check this out with Tech Support).

Can you play the vob file from your hard drive?
Have you asked a friend to extract and play the vob file from the disc?

I always recommend placing video files in "My Works". Placing a large file in an editing program does take time to load (depends where it is located on the PC) .... but it seems your computer is having a "Program Not Responding" moment.
