Quote: Thanks Guys

Tony: Tried that still can't delete Cyberlink folder in C drive due to 'not alowed message'. The WOW6432 didn't have a CL or PD folder in it.

Fred: I can delete most of the contents of the folder except for the Richvideo module. I tried your suggestion but 'got lost' through the process and was in areas of my computer that were 'scary' so I didn't proceed.

Thanks to all assisted.

I've deleted every known PD and CL files in areas of my computer I didn't know existed! (thanks Fred)

Used the clean up tool (Thanks Dafydd & Tony). (not sure if it did anything).

I even managed to find the Richvideo file in the services.msc start up area and worked out how to delete it.

However I STILL cannot install my original PD8.

Cyberlink Powerdirector was detected on your system. Please uninstall first. Do you want to uninstall it now? Yes or No

If I click YES it does nothing.

If I click No and ejcect the disk I have the box Installing Cyberlink on my desktop tool bar (where your clock etc is).

Arrgh!!!!

Why can't I install this software again???? Is there a 'you've exceeded your installs' feature? Happing editing

Neil -

I'm sorry the ideas put haven't got you through the issue yet. There's no feature like "You've installed too many times so we're going to fry your disc"... but obviously something is still lurking there, making the PC THINK that PD is still installed.

I am no expert on these matters... but a couple of things come to mind:

1. Did you completely uninstall PhotoNow when you previously uninstalled PD?

2. When you use tools like Revo Uninstaller or Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, does PowerDirector or PhotoNow (or any other CyberLink software) show up in the list? If so - uninstall and use at least a moderate level registry scan. (One person in the DZ forum had to completely uninstall EVERY CyberLink product before she could re-install PD... it seemed a bit OTT but it worked)

Good luck in your quest - Tony

Neil,

Tony is spot on here. Back in the day, I had problems with my re-installs, and it was owing to the fact that I kept forgetting to un-install Photo Now (which comes with PD when one installs it). That might be what is going wrong for you.

Hi Tony

I've been thinking about your:

"There's no feature like "You've installed too many times so we're going to fry your disc"... but obviously something is still lurking there, making the PC THINK that PD is still installed."

Technically; you could give the install disk to 50 people who in turn give it to 50 people who in turn... I think you get my drift.

Any software manufacturer who be out of business in a week.

I wonder if this is the case as I've install/reinstall this PD8 disk about 10 times. Happing editing

Hi Neil,

I know Tony has directed you to regedit, but see if the following helps, extract from CyberLink knowlege base

III. Remove PowerDirector folder and clean up PowerDirector Registry
Please try the following steps.
1. Delete C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector folder
2. Delete C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1} folder
3. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run, type “regedit” and click OK to start Registry Editor.
(1) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector
(2) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
(3) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield Uninstall Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
(4) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}

Hi Neil,

Happy to have been of assistance, thought I should try and find a solution for you, seeing as I got you into the mess in the first place

It is always best to do a clean install, uninstall build 2220 then install build 2220c.

Hi Robert

What do you mean?

At the moment I have the original PD8 1930. I HAD PD8 2220 & tried to download PD8 2220C courtesy of a link from Dafydd.

Do i download patch 2220 & then overlay that with PD82220Cexe or just overlay PD82220C?

PS The reason why I got this 2220C was because patch 2220 from CL UPDATES rendered the fix\enchance function inoperable. Happing editing

Hi Neil,

Sorry, I thought you already had build 2220 installed.

Uninstall the version currently on your computer, then install build 2220c, what you downloaded is the full version of 2220c, not a patch, remember to also install the Contents package

Gee Robert,
I wished I'd read this post before I read the emails I had from Neil... which I answered with similar advice:

"I use Control Panel > Add and remove programs to uninstall PD8 - please do that.

Ok Please carry out PART P and V from below instructions.
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page
Subject: PowerDirector - information we request and tasks to carry out.

There are slight variations on the instructions for Vista users and Tony has eluded to this on the forum.

Basically Neil you've mucked up an uninstall/reinstall... I don't know how but you have. The aim of my instructions is to clear the decks - in the Clean tool if you see PD, uninstall it."

As for Neil's latest requirement - I did that as well in the email to him!

Well blow me over.... You lot in Oz wake up on the wrong day to the rest of us!

Dafydd

Hi All

I have just updated my computer

The specs are next to my sign off.

My problem is (after one botched attempt to install) that Cyberlink has been detected on my system.

Here's what was written the last time I did this:

Quote: Hi Neil,

I know Tony has directed you to regedit, but see if the following helps, extract from CyberLink knowlege base

3. Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run, type “regedit” and click OK to start Registry Editor.
(1) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector
(2) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}
(3) Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield Uninstall Information\{CB099890-1D5F-11D5-9EA9-0050BAE317E1}

The above info kindly supplied by Robert.

I havenow updated to Windows 7 and some of these files are not in the registry.

Any idea how I can remove the 'unistall'registry files from Window 7??

Thanks in advance

Hi Neil,
I'll send you a special CLCleaner tool which CyberLink have supplied to fool the OS. Once applied and you'll not see what it removes you should be able to install PD again.

Hi, Better late than never I suspect BUT whenevr I clear out any Cyberlink product (like when I regressed from the Beta test back to PD8 (3022) I always do a clear out using the find/Search facility in Regedit, and deleting every reference it finds - its probably a very dangerous approach BUT it always clears everything out. I was completely unable to reinstall the "old PD8 after installing the Beta test.

I am using 3022 and have been doing so since its release - with no problems, for people like yourself to be using an older version I guess 3022 must have some features I haven't yet discovered ;-(

Good luck

Don
