PowerDVD 9 Ultra Patch 2227 Keeps Prompting for AACS Update

I updated PowerDVD 9 Ultra from 2201 which was working just fine on my system to 2227 and now I cannot get past an update message. I reverted back to 2201 and everything is fine, but for 2227 I cannot get past this AACS update message and nothing will play. I tried reformatting my drive and going straight to 2227 and no luck. As soon as I put back 2201, everything is fine again. Before I re-imaged my machine I tried using AnyDVD and it worked then, but only because it was removing the AACS protection. When I reinstalled Vista I didn't put AnyDVD back on. 2201 is what I am using and works fine. I can keep switching between the two. 2201=good, 2227=bad everytime.

Following is lauching PDVD9 from shortcut:

You must update CyberLink PowerDVD to continue the playback of this content. Yes / No

I click on Yes and then I get:

Player application update
Update complete. OK

I click OK and then try to play again and it just keeps looping the error.

Within Vista Media Center I get the following error:

AACS License Key Update
An important component of CyberLink PowerDVD requires periodic updates. New movies may not play back if the component is not updated now. Would you like to update now? - (Error Code = 0024) Yes / No.

I click Yes and nothing happens except the error keeps reappearing. If I click No nothing plays

this happens with all blue ray titles i tried....even some of my own that i created from photos and videos. i have a dell xps 420 desktop....intel core 2 quad cpu 2.66ghz....4 gb ram....windows 7 ultimate. the antivirus and firewall is mcafee security center that came with the machine.........

Since doing a clean install of Windows 7, I also receive the message that the AACS License Key update is needed.

In Media Center clicking 'Yes' just results in the message appearing again. Without being able to get past the pop-up message results in Power DVD 9 being unusable. I have Avira Anti-Virus and Windows firewall. Turning these off makes no different with the AACS License Key pop-up message. If Power DVD 9 is opened outside Media Center, the pop-up message will disapear after clicking 'Yes', but Power DVD becomes unresponsive. The AACS LicenseKey is never downloaded.

I use a retail verison purchased from Cyberlink. I upgrade in April 2009 to PowerDVD 9 Ultra SR Number: DVD091022-07. The bundeled version was constantly not responding. The purchased version worked sporatically, before it caused Vista to lock up and not respond just like the bundeled version. A clean install with Windows 7 gives some indication of what the problem is, the AACC License Key Update.

Avira Anti-Virus and the Windows firewall which comes with Windows 7. Connect automatically to the internet for player updates is enabled. No audio/video software software, other than Windows DVD Maker. DVDs play fine, Blue Ray discs are not playable.

I have exactly the same problem. Running 2320. Get this: The same BR DVDs that were playing fine a week ago now will not play because of an "update" that doesn't seem to be happening. I wasn't happy to sit down with the sack of Blurays I got for Christmas, only to get this...

The last reply I received was that the problem was sent to a higher department. I was going to try to uninstall PowerDVD completely and reinstall. I have not found the time to do this as of this post.

I've done a complete uninstall/reinstall several times. No dice. I even upgraded to 2320. No Dice. Of course, Cyberlink may be "leaving" some artifacts somewhere in the registry or a "hidden" location I cannot determine.

Looking at Windows Media Center, it's definitely related to updating the AACS License Key.

Running AnyDVD Does fix the problem (of course that means eventually buying AnyDVD). Apparently, this is because that product "removes" AACS licensing...

I'd also add that it seems unrelated to which Bluray DVD I'm trying to use. It happens with older ones (like Batman Returns or Planet Earth) as well as new ones like The Hangover. I can view normal DVDs fine.

I did at one point have to kill PowerDVD because it hung at 99% load of a BR DVD. I think my problems may have started happening after that.

It seems like this is the sequence:

1. PowerDVD realizes it needs to update its AACS license. (Either directly through the PowerDVD interface or Windows Media Center)
2. It asks if I want to do that.
3. I say yes.
4. It thinks the update works, but
5. Either the update doesn't work, or PowerDVD doesn't save that the update worked, or the update updated to a previous version that would appear to need updating next time.
6. Goto #1

The part that gets me is on December 19, 2009 it worked fine. It only started getting messed up after I killed the proc when it hung at 99% a few days ago.

Could someone tell me how to remove every last trace of PowerDVD 9 so I can try a complete reinstall? At least then I would know it's something about the AACS update itself.

I'm seeing this problem too, with a clean install of PowerDVD 9.0.2320. I have a Dell XPS 420, Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit, no firewall or anti-virus activated.

I've been testing with the Harry Potter 6 blu-ray disc - I can get about halfway through the movie with no problem, but then at the same scene every time I start to see pixelation, then eventually I get this pop up:

Choosing Yes doesn't do anything noticeable - the program restarts at the beginning of the movie, but once I jump to that chapter and start to watch the issue happens again.

Thanks for the tip on the Dell XPS 420 firmware. I tried to run it, but it says that there is no disk detected that needs updating. I'm using an external Buffalo Mediastation Blu-ray drive (http://www.buffalotech.com/products/optical-drives/mediastation/mediastation-8x-external-blu-ray-writer/) , not anything from Dell - that probably explains why the Dell firmware update didn't do anything.

Any further ideas?

I too am having this issue after trying to play the new Star Trek movie.. It wants to update the AACS keys and indicates that it has done so but in reality has not.

Furthermore, I think that when a new title is inserted that requires an AACS key update, older AACS keys are invalidated until the new keys are installed, which is not happening.

The work-around is to use anyDVD to by-pass AACS or just to play the blu-ray titles in a normal "connected to the TV" blue-ray player that does not have this AACS hang-up!

I think cyberlink should study how normal stand-alone connected the the TV players work and try to make this less of a tinkering experiment and more user friendly as people should not have to pay extra (if they don't want) for anyDVD especially if there system id fully HDCP compliant.

Instead of spending 80 - 140 bucks for this software, people that don't want the hassle could just buy a Sony or Samsung Blue ray player at Sam's club or Walmart for around 125.00 bucks.

Luckily I bought anyDVD when I had on old non-HDCP compliant system and have since upgraded my computer but I am glad I kept anyDVD around :

Has anyone worked out a fix for this yet? My drive has been down all weekend. I have uninstalled PowerDVD 9 then reinstalled it and the patches with my firewall down. This has had no effect. I rented the new Blu-ray "star trek" and "Management" DVDs from Blockbuster was prompted to load the "CyberLink.2320(TaRe45)(a)_DVD091223-02" patch and now the drive that has worked all year for me is stuck in this same Error code 0024 loop.

I logged a help request with the CyberLink website yesterday and have heard nothing. I'm running Vista on a home build with Norton 360. I'm out $10 on the rental and wondering what is going on....

Cyberlink has been running me around for months on this. I have described it and described it and described it to them. They even had me try version 10 -- no luck. At one point, they promoted the problem to a "higher department" (actual developers) who couldn't reproduce it in one try and gave up.
