I have had SO much trouble w/Power Director 5 Premium. I have had to uninstall and reinstall several times. Now it will not even open at all. Click on shortcut on desktop and NOTHING! I am ready to give up, uninstall PD5P, chalk it up to a waste of money and a waste of my time and definitely never reccommend Cyberlink. Anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you solve it?

No I haven't..... never.... so I wonder what you're doing and how your system is that is causing the problem.

There are some basic actions you should carry out and provide information. I've attached my uninstall instructions - follow them precisely.

After you've done all that... please provide the following additional information:

1. Build version of PowerDirector 5 Premium. Look in Help/About and record the numbers there.
2. List the actions you take to get to the problem... Do this by numerical bullet points 1,2,3,4 etc

Right, now lets get you to help yourself...

I'm presuming you have contacted TechSupport... which you should have done already....

Thank you for your help. This is just to let you know I just followed your first instruction for PD_uninstall. Will now do the 2nd stage DxDiag. You are correct that I contacted support numerous times, uninstalled/installed PDR5 several times.

I hope I am doing this forum correctly; never written to a forum before.
DxDiag will be on its way momentarily.

Oh forgot: When following 1st set of instructions to uninstall when going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - SOFTWARE - CYBERLINK DELETE FOLDER "POWER DIRECTOR" -- there was no Power Director folder. Only Cyberlink folder w/ "Common", "Diego", "Medio-Obj", "PDRPackage","PhotoNow",
'PPPPackage". I went ahead and deleted the whole thing.

I have the Cyberlink Power Director 5 Premium ( I would have it if it worked). You asked me to go to help, then about and record the info listed there. I cannot as the program will NOT open!! You asked for the actions that get me to my problem. There is only one - I simply click on the shortcut on my desktop, or in my start menu and I get NOTHING!! It does not open at all, nada, zip, nothing!!!! Tech support had told me I needed no patches. The last thing they told me to do was to re-format and do a clean install on my computer and there is no way I will re-format my hard drive at this point in time. I feel I should not need to.

I have attached my DxDiag. Thank you for your help.

Can you tell me why, in this forum form it has a box to check to disable HTML in these messages? I uncheck it.

Bamford,
HTML - to do with writing a message in the code as per this link here: Click

Okay... you're not going to like my answer. Wipe your hard drive and re-install everything... reformat. You've got a corrupt system and to correct it you will need to wipe the hard drive of windows etc and start again.

I wipe my System at least once a year... and it is a good policy as it makes you remove dross and have a cleaner faster computer set up...well that's what I've found.

The PowerDirector activation problem you're experiencing.... I initially wondered it it was a graphic driver issue.... but my guess to what action and cause is.... Your system is corrupted... could be a virus.... so do the sensible thing and back up your work and files and then wipe your system.

Oh you are correct - I didn't like your answer. But that is what I will do, very reluctantly. I just hate to have to add all my applications again, go through the registration processes, etc. What a pain!!

I use Sophos, Windows Live OneCare, Spybot. Used to use AVG, which I thought was very good, but was told I had too many antivirus programs and should remove a couple. I removed AVG. Sophos is what is used by the University of Arizona. Since my husband is on the faculty we are allowed to download Sophos to our computers at home for free. My hard drive/files are backed up on a weekly basis, defrag monthly, etc. So I do try to take good care of my computer. (And I do know what HTML means, by the way. Just didn't know why it should or should not be disabled in these messages)

Thank you once again for your assistance!!

(I see you are from Wales. My husband's family has been in Ireland for +/- 300 years.)

Have a wonderful day!

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. Anti-Virus...is fine...until it's bypassed and that happens to the best of us.

I get given software to look at by many companies... I had to laugh at one anti-virus software which did a system check...it looked for Trojan programs.... the anti-virus program itself included a Trojan program that it listed as a threat!!!

HTML - it was to do with switching off the capability of writing that type of script in a posting and showing it wasn't off in my posting...

Yep...from Wales. Okay I have a question for you: Which is closer to where I live, London or Dublin?

My forefathers have been here for about 8000 years...at the last count! Brythonic speaking Celts.....

I have also had all kind of problems with pd 5 and tried all the suggestion of the support. a friend of mine has had the same trouble. I never did get it to work right. I think there is something wrong with the program and wish there was a way to fix it. If you ever find out how I also would like to know.

I, too, have that same problem with PD 5 not opening. Dafydd was very helpful in a post a couple of weeks ago but we still couldn't figure it out. I emailed support back and forth a few times with my symptoms and came to the conclusion that I had another program that conflicted with PD 5 - and I've decided that it is Pinnacle Studio.

I just couldn't stomach reformatting my hard drive and starting over again. I didn't want to uninstall Studio because I'm still using it and it is working fine. Sooooo . . . . this is how I'm working around the problem.

I have Studio with all my video, audio, stills, etc. installed on my desktop. I also have a laptop that is networked to the desktop. I installed PD 5 on the laptop and "pull" all my content from the desktop. So far, everything is working fine!

I just hope that Cyberlink can find a solution so that their video editing program doesn't conflict with other programs. Even with PD 5 installed, Studio still works fine, so it's got to be a problem with PD 5.

Cindy

PS - Just an FYI . . . I purchased PD 5 within the 30 days of PD 6 being released. I emailed support and they responded that I would be eligible for a free upgrade. However, it's been over a week since they told me they would send me the link, so I hope they will make good on their promise. I am hoping that this new version will not have the program conflicts that PD 5 has - I'm crossing my fingers!
