Yes. You can place the fade transition at the end of the image and not in between two images.

If I understand correctly, you just want to fade the image.
It has several simple ways, dragging down the horizontal green line in the video directly on the timeline.

You can also do it easily in the PiP designer, by just selecting the "Enable fade out" check box.
