Put simply, it is not possible to merge .pds files. What you need to do is Produce each part, using a different file name, then bring them back to create one complete file.

Hi agrafton -

Don't worry - you don't have a monopoly on oldness.

1. Open your first project (containing the 6-8 clips). Let's call it "agrafton_1".
2. Click Produce and choose what format you'd like.
3. Click Start and PD will render your project to a video. You might name it, for example, ag_1
4. Close PD.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 for each of your other projects, let's say "agrafton_2", "agrafton_3" etc.

Now you'll have 8 videos, ag_1, ag_2, ag_3 etc

6. Open up a new project.
7. Import ag_1, ag_2, ag_3 and the rest.
8. Put them all on the timeline and apply whatever transitions you want or insert colour boards between them.
9. Click Produce and wait for rendering. If you've chosen mpeg2 on each occasion, you won't have to wait long.
10. Now you have a video containing all the clips. Let's call it ag_combo
11. Job done. You can keep ag_1 etc or trash them... but make sure you keep ag_combo or you'll have to start again.

I'm not sure if this feature was in PDR7, but it is in PDR8.

If you want to treat each project as a chapter or title, you can add the different .pds projects on the Content tab after clicking "Create Disc." There's a button to "Import PowerDirector projects." When you're done with the button, you'll have a list of projects that you can burn to one DVD.

When played back, there isn't a perfect seam where projects "join." There is a short period of black between projects, and as far as I know you can't use a transition to join the projects.

You can change the playback mode so that the projects play in sequence followed by a return to the menu, or so that only one project is played followed by a return to the menu. There's a button near the bottom right of the window to click if you want to change the playback mode.

You can edit any project in the list by clicking the corresponding edit button. After saving the edited project, click "Create Disc" and then you can select a different project to edit.

Xerox - you're worth more money!

Quite right - I had forgotten (age shall weary them) about that feature, which is new to PD8. There you go, agrafton - two possibilities for combining your projects. Xerox's suggestion has different options for playback.

So - I guess it comes down to how you want it to look & behave in the end.

Robert - I'm certain you'd have replied just as eloquently... and probably not neglected to mention the "Xerox Option".
