I just bought my dvd recorder and hardly understand how to use it. (that is another issue) Anyway, I have about seven 8mm camcorder tapes I want to convert to DVD. I have been looking online about how to convert my tapes to DVD and it seems like I have to buy software or programs to do this. Is this correct?

My first question is~ do I have to buy stuff to get the job done? If so, what and approx. how much am I looking at spending? If it's close to $100, I may just pay a local company for the conversion ($150ish??) if I have to buy some products anyway to do it on my own (and take many hours figuring out). Any guidance would be much appreciated!! Thanks.

Hi,
I did something like that a few years back. I bought a device to connect my old camera to the computer so I could transfer the video to the hard drive. Back then I paid about $150. for it, it came with Pynnacle Systems video editing software, now days is probably better and cost about $50.
It's called DAZZLE, it's just a little box, you connect yor old camera, vcr, tv, (just about anything with RCA type of plug) to the box. The box connects tu yor computer via USB, then you can use PD to capture your video.
Here is the link to DAZZLE so you can read for yourself and see if it would help you. Click

You can do a "pass thru" with a digital video camcorder. If you have a newer camcorder, or a friend who has one, some models have a/v inputs just for this purpose. Powerdirector has capability to capture this.
I had a Dazzle, it worked ok but the software it came with (Pinnacle) almost ruined my life. Join/SignUp to SeeMyWorldOnVideo. We're PowerDirector Video Editors. Are you a member? - JOIN TODAY!
