Fluctuations in exposure and white balance during shoot

I got lazy on a recent video shoot and just let the camera run on auto. The woman in the video was wearing a black sweater so when I needed to zoom in, it changed the cameras frame rate and left me with a video that darkens and brightens at various points throughout. I was hoping there was a feature on Powerdirector 17 or a plugin to sample the white in the background and apply it to the whole video but I"ve not had any luck finding it. Does such a thing exist or do I have to do it manually?

I doubt the frame rate changed. But, PD17 does have a white balance that may help. See Pic, Fix / Enhance > White Balance > White calibration eye dropped lets you scan the footage and select "white".

I assumed it was the frame rate because the entire video gets brighter and darker. If I manually adjust the exposure in power director, it makes the video look pretty consistent. I copied the video timeline and pasted it on another row. I then chop it up, adjust the exposure, and fade the transparency in and out. It looks pretty good when I'm done, it just takes a lot of time. I tried the color balance built into the program and it's less than functional as far as I'm concerned.
