What are chapters used for?

I've watched a number of tutorials that talk about adding chapters. I'm trying to figure out what chapters are used for other than selecting a particular position in the video/slideshow. Are they required?

What I am trying to accomplish is putting multiple slideshows on one DVD and allowing the viewer to select whioch slideshow they want to watch. I thought I could just add projects to the menu then the viewer could select which one he wants to watch from the Scenes menu.

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

The answer to your first question is chapters are not required or needed.

What you want to accomplish can be done this way. Go to Create Disc. 1. In menu preferences, uncheck include root menu. 2. Produce each slideshow separately or create a separate project for each slideshow and create the chapters if you want. 3. In Playback mode select the option you want like Play the selected title only.

Hope this help you get started.
