Hi Gugli,
To the right of every timeline, you will see a little padlock icon.
If you click on this padlock icon, it will lock that timeline in it’s place, and now nothing can be moved or edited in that locked timelime, until you decide to unlock it.
(note: a pds save will NOT save a timelines locked status, and you must re-lock when opening a project from a pds save.)
If you are just replacing an image, then lock all the timelines (except the one you’re working with), and drag the new image down next to the one you want to replace. Then set the new images’ “duration” to the exact same duration as the one you are replacing. Then delete the unwanted image, unlock all the timelines, and everything will still be in sync.
If your preferences are set as Robert described above, then PD will automatically shift everything when you insert a new image that is longer or shorter than the original one.
And of course, all this also applies to video sequence changes too.
But naturally, if in the middle of a 4 minute project, you replace 00:47 clip, with a 01:14 clip, and even though your project and the PIPs will automatically shift the required amount (if not locked), any audio or music in the audio tracks, that you had “tailored to fit” the original edit, may need some manual adjustment or re-working, to accommodate the new extra 27 seconds you’ve added to you project.
So, using a combination of “locking” your timelines, and letting them automatically shift, should make it possible for you to accomplish your desired edit. But again, your audio tracks may need re-working owing to duration changes.
And remember, when making any big changes to an edit, it’s always a good idea to make a re-named copy of your project’s last pds save. Then open a new PD session from/with that “copy”, and try your new changes. That way NOTHING can go wrong with your last saved pds, as you are now just working off the copy)
