It's difficult to understand how a company with so much experience in the video editing software space could push out such a flawed product as the 365 version of PD18.

Personally, having worked with video editing software since the late seventies, when I purchase a domestic product of this nature, I always buy the full stand alone product, and keep the fully patched previous version of the stand alone product on my system because of the inevitable early bugs in the new version of the product. My PD18 Ultimate works fine, but I feel genuinely sorry for the folks who upgraded to the 365 version of PD18. Judging by the posts I've seen, this roll out seems to have been a total disaster. Did anybody at Cyberlink test this product before asking people to buy it? You expect bugs in any new release, but PD18 365 seems to have fundamental errors that should have been seen and addressed by the QA team?

I really hope that Cyberlink is working on a significant patch for this product. I can only imagine the frustration that some people must be feeling.

I sure hope there is. I've already signed up for Adobe Premiere and will ask for a refund from Cyberlink soon.

I don't get why private persons would buy subscription software. It's not like they can deduct it at the taxes.

In my case, it was my first time buying editing software and I was intrigued by the Chinese Painting and other AI features that are free along with the 365 version.

PD18 has been horrible for me and customer support has been very slow.

I always buy the one-time-payment version and more or less they worked all right. Sure there are patches to fix things, but realistically everyone does that in the software industry. If you see a software without patches you think that is not maintained not that is perfect.

I was tempted by the AI features but... for now I resisted the temptation ($150 each).

PS: I even have the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 that was supposed to accelerate the AI Effects under PowerDirector 17, but now I can't find that in the FAQ, only the reference to CUDA 3.0 or higher. So maybe they switched to that in 18...

I'm trying to fix my issues with the support right now, but so far it was 2 or 3 rounds of "install latest drivers and send us dxdiag file". One more round of this and I'll refund my subscription for good.
PD will not use my NVidia GPU and just uses my on-board chip. And there is nothing they can do about it.

PD18 uses my i7 CPU rather than my Nvidia 1060 GTX GPU, but as it renders quickly and accurately, I don't care. smile
