Hi There

I have a problem with PowerDVD 8 and 9 Ultra.

I have just bought a new PC running Windows 7. This is the spec

Motherboard - GIGABYTE EG43M-S2H "S Series" G43 & ICH10 Express Chipset - Socket LGA775 @ FSB1333 - For Celeron®D, Pentium®D & Core™2 Series 1x PCI Express x16 (x4), 1x PCI Express x1, 2x PCI, 4x DDR2-800 (Dual), 5x SATA2, 1x ATA133, 1x eSATA, 12x USB 2.0, Realtek Gigabit LAN 7.1 Channel High Definition Audio, Features Gigabyte SMART & SAFE Technology, Vista Premium Certified

Processor - Intel® Boxed Core2™Quad Q8200 Processor - 2.40GHz Quad Core, Socket 775, 4MB, 1066MHz FSB, 45nm, x64 Support

Graphics Card - Gigabyte® NVIDIA® GeForce 9400GT, 1GB 128Bit GDDR2, PCI-E 2.0, Dual DVI, HDTV, DirectX 10, OpenGL 2.1, SLI Ready, Vista Premium

Now my audio on my motherboard is Realtek ALC888 codec, High Definition Audio, 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel, Support for S/PDIF In/Out, Support for CD In.

I'm using my S/PDIF out into my receiver but I get no sound when trying to watch a movie. But when I use Windows Media Player or Nero Showtime, I get perfect sound.

Please let me know if there is a solution

I have a similar setup that was working OK with optical 5.1 sound until the last PowerDVD update. Now I get no optical 5.1 sound. The other Microsoft stuff still works. PowerDVD plays DVDs really well and I like the cool effects with my nVidia 9300, but this sound thing is annoying.

Bye.

Huuuuhhh, wished they'd get this whole sound thing fixed. You'd think they'd have problems like this fixed by version 9.

Yeh I know what you mean. And the most frustrating thing is no one can help by giving a solution.

Well Cyberlink has just lost one of their customers. I went back to my store and exchange powerdvd 9 for Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre Platinum and it works great, no sound problems. I won't bother buying powerdvd ever again.

Same problem on ASUS M3A78-EM motherboard running XP Pro SP3, onboard Realtek audio; PowerDVD 8.0 bundled with LG DVD drive.

I suspect PowerDVD 8.0 is crippleware, designed to entice user to purchase PowerDVD 10.0 - PowerDVD 8.0 has splash screen this 'version does not support digital audio'.

Support is abysmal. Back & forth we go, they never follow the chain of messages.

I have an ancient PII running Win98SE, Sound Blaster card and DXR2 DVD - BLOWS THE DOORS OFF POWERDVD 8.0 AND LG DVD.
