PD18 does not accept Canopus DV *.avi files

I have a project with old *.avi (Canopus DV 720x576) clips.
This project played well from the timeline in PD17 but not in PD18 (No picture sound ok)
When I insert a clip in 1920x1080 it plays from the timeline .
Is this a codec problem and how can I learn PD18 to accept Canopus DV clips as Pd 17 did.

Hi,
I've posted here just in case you were feeling ignored !
There does indeed seem to be a problem with PD 18 and *.avi files.
Some regular 'Senior Contributors' are reporting this...
They are very experienced PowerDirector users and I'd suggest keeping an eye on their posts.
If anyone can come up with a cure, they're the best bet.

Bernd, technical support, from German Forum, showed 15 years experience in videoediting.
For the time being he found a simple solution. Rename the *.avi files into *.mpg.
it is also necessary to have the Canopus DVdriver installed. (V8.50.1927).
i hope Support wil find a final solution in PD18 without renaming.

I recieved a Hotfix from Support with this hotfix mentioned problem is solved.
I can now play .avi (with Canopus DV codec) from the timeline!
Canopus codec pack V8.50.1927 needs to be installed.

With this hotfix crashing of PD 18 is not solved.
