My experience with PD17

I strongly believe this is related to powerdirector.

I don't want to get into details.

I had many many problems with powerdirector 17.

Recently I aslo needed to have a white background.. and guess what.. this is not possible with powerdirector. So I just loaded a white background picture myself but this is just an example. I started 3-4 topics with serious problems I was experiencing since a few months (since I bought it). At least triple of that I had to find ways to circumvent how non intuitive powerdirector is and how buggy too.

I last did a project in hitfilm express and it went SO smoothly. I went back to PD to finish a project that I had not finished from months ago that I started on PD.

Audiodirector is kind of meh too. I honestly prefer audacity.

I bought powerdirector 365. Even if it were free I would not recommend this to a friend.

The plug ins and effects are very old school too I have not used any of them.

The best about powerdirector were the few people who always tried to help me when I posted on this forum.
So I want to thank them!

I don't think however that I'll go back to using this. It's been a real pain in the *** most of the times.

I'm posting this as constructive criticism. Even a beginner like me experienced the limitations of PD.

Oldschool PD cannot keep up with the rest. I don't think you'll still be here 10 years from now.

I'm sorry that you had so many problems, and I appreciate you for thanking the volunteers who spent time helping you.

Just a couple of points regarding your comments. I don't believe that you posted anything about popping sounds, and that's not anything I typically experience. The only time I've ever run into it is at a transition between clips, and then, placing an audio transition or manually dropping the volume at the end and start of the two clips always solves the issue.

As for not being able to get a white background from inside PD, you obviously aren't aware of the color boards in the Media Library, which you would have found if you'd searched the forum or watched some tutorials. That's quite a different situation from "not possible with powerdirector."

As for any of us not being here in 10 years, I'm wondering why you felt the need to post that. I'm in my 8th year as a contributiing member of the forum and there are people who've been active much longer than me. Nobody knows what the next 10 years will hold for video editing or much of anything else, but I don't see any point in making such a blanket assumption about other people.

Anyway, if you've found another editor that works better for you, by all means use it! If you end up using PD again for any reason, I'd expect that the forum will still be here and we'll be happy to help you with any issues you care to post.

I did not post I wanted to finish my project today so I tried myself. Some of the popping happened in the middle of a clip where no cutting had happened.

With 10 years I was talking about the PD software. 10 years from now for sure they will be out of business.
Just look at the evolution of the powerdirector versions and then look at the other software that are available some of them for free.

The marketplace will dictate success or failure for any software product. In my opinion, PD17 is a good video editing system as a domestic product. If you're shooting family events, weddings, You Tube videos etc, PD17 is perfectly fine. There are indeed free video editing software options out there, and there is also video editing software that is considerably more expensive than PD. It's really a question of what you're looking for. I haven't had any issues with PD17, and it renders very quickly.
