I'm using PowerDirector 17 for HD 60p video editing, I don't use 4k.
My current hardware is following:
- i7-6820HQ 2.7GHz
- 16GB RAM
- NVIDIA Quadro M2000M 4GB
- Windows 7 64bit
With this configuration PowerDirector is not always working smoothly and playback can be choppy. Therefore, I would like to upgrade my PC now.
What is the recommended hardware configuration for HD video editing to obtain smooth operation?

What hardware needed for smooth editing is the most computer you can afford.

Fastest CPU, Fastest GPU, tons of Memory and fast SSD hard drives.

A good place to get bench marks of hardware. You will find benchmarks for CPU and GPUs here.
