PD14 to PD365
[Post New]
Firstly there seems to be no forum for PD365 but having said that the comparison chart shows PD365 includes PD17.
PD17 ULTRA is shown at the included price of twice that of PD365.
I am very confused!
I want to make an informed choice but can't if I am totally confused.
Why is there no forum for PD365?
Is it because the main body of PD365 is PD17?
Or am I miles away from the truth?
And why is it so difficult to understand?
Perhaps I have missed the spot on the website where it is all explained?

And lastly how can I compare the specs of my PD14 to PD365 to see if I think it is worth upgrading? Phil

It might help to frame it a little differently. Ther are actually 2 versions of PD17 - standalone (or perpetual license) and subscription versions.

In the past, a new version of PD came out every September or so and got a version number increase. You bought a license for PD14 and have been able to use the product from that point on (perpetually) without any additional cost. To get a newer version with more features, you need to pay for an upgrade.

The subscription (365) version is a newer way of licensing PD, and you get all kinds of extra content along with the current PD version (which is 17), as long as you pay the ongoing subscription fee. You will also get the next PD version when it's released and all future updates and versions as well.

Since the forums are arranged by which version of PD people have, there isn't much of a need for 365 since that's only a licensing method for the most part. Cyberlink may end up differentiating the two versions more down the road, and I would imagine they'd add the appropriate subforums at that time.

If you're in the US, here is the comparison page for all PD17 "flavors."

If you're located in a different region, sign in to your Cyberlink account or click on the globe icon at the top right of the page and select your location.

Since PD14 is obsolete, you'll have to search online for the specs. I found this article quickly.

These links are probably good for comparing PD17 offerings. https://www.cyberlink.com/products/video-photo-editor-combo/comparison_en_US.html or https://www.cyberlink.com/support/product-faq-content.do?id=23375&prodId=4&prodVerId=1339&CategoryId=-1&keyword=features

The 365 is basically a new selling scheme wrapped around PD17 product, basically you rent by the month or year, when you stop renting, you have no product to use. I also believe you will be updated rather you'd like that or not. So when you get used to PD17 and its nuances, when PD18 is released, you will be upgrade regardless as long as you are under rent. If your rent period expired, you can run nothing until another purchase.

It's a little harder comparing PD14 to PD17 features but below is a list of changes in each version that may be of interest depending how you use PD.
