360 video produce problem

I have 4K 360 video (mp4) which I want to edit and I have a problems to produce.

1. When I produce it, I have 3 selections, WindowsMedia, Mpeg-2, H.264AVC, but all of them have only 1920x1080 as max resolution, not 4K resolution 3840x2048. I could only choose Online produce in order to select 4K resolution. Is it how it works?

2. When I produce 4K 360 video without editing, file size becomes more than 3 times. Original 4K 360 video (mp4) was 545MB but after I imported the video into PowerDirector and produced it, it became 1.8GB. I did not add any effect or anything. Is there any way to keep 4K quality and keep small file size?

For your first question, I'm not sure why you see such a limited range. This is what I see with a 4k 360 clip on the timeline (also note that I have 2 completely different formats that you describe in addition to several 4K settings):

Can you take a screenshot of PD's "about" screen? Click on the word PowerDirector at the top right and use the Attachments button when you reply:

It's important that we see all the icons as shown here (yours will probably look different):

To produce your video to 3840x2048, you might have to create a custom profile, and this thread should help.

For your second question, that is going to entirely depend on what produce profile you used. It would help if you could tell us the bitrate and duration of your source clip. File Explorer and PD can give you that basic info by right clicking on the clip and choosing (View) Properties.

You could also upload a short sample clip to a cloud folder and paste the link to it here so other people can work with it and find a good profile to produce to.

Thank you for your reply.

1. I have all icons

2. I have no 4K resolution selection, but I can use "Online" and create mp4. Is there any difference between "360 Video" and "Online"?

3. This is original 4K 360 video

This is same video but it went through PowerDirector. I simply imported above video and produced as 4K 360 video without editing. File size became more than 3 tmes.

I want to keep same quality, and same/less file size. Is it possible?

I notice that your project aspect ratio is 16:9 instead of 360. You are also in the 3D instead of the 2D tab to produce. The maximum resolution in the 3D tab is 1920 x 1080 for any video editing software.

tomasc has the answer for the limited produce choices.

Neither of your videos appear as 360º clips when I open them in PD, so you will probably have to export them from your camera's app with different settings to preserve the 360 attributes. This version has been "flattened."

Also, the reason your PD clip is 3x bigger is because your source clip has a bitrate of 14Mbps, while the profile you used to produce the PD version is 50Mbps.

See what the choices are from the 360 produce tab when you import the true 360 degree version of the clip, and then use the steps in the other thread I linked to to create a custom 3840x2048 25p 15Mbps profile.

I am new to editing 360 videos. I see your original 360 drone videos with audio is recorded at 25 fps, 14 Mbps and works in my PD17. Your produced video is done with incorrect settings. See the attached screen recording.

You may want to set the Preferences/General to 25 fps. In produce use the Profile Analyzer and create a custom profile based on that and you should be good to go. Optodata has the info you need to continue.

Hi fasdfas -

Yes - your video "Mosel Flight 360° EDRM to EDRK uncut_EDIT_EDIT" is an odd one. It's not equirectangular [3840x1920], it's about 1.85:1 [3840x2048] rather than 2:1.

Despite that, it plays in 360 players correctly, as a 360 video. In PDR, it doesn't.

Why is it named "... EDIT_EDIT"? Has it been rendered previously?

You should start again:

  1. Open PDR17 & set the project AR to 360°

  2. Import the original 360 (equrectangular) video

  3. Insert it in the timeline

  4. Set 360 view under the Preview window

  5. Go to Produce > 360 video tab

  6. Produce to MP4 3840x1920/30p (50Mbps)

Post a screenshot of the Produce screen showing the profile you selected.

Cheers - Tony

Strange that tomasc saw both vids as 360, bit Tony and I couldn't.

I went back and tried setting the project AR to 360 before importing the clips, and got the AR conflict message when I placed a clip on the timeline. After toggling the AR setting a couple of times and trying both 360 and 16:9, I was finally able to get the timeline into 360 mode.

At that point I noticed a missing slice in the 360 field:

I then created a custom profile with the settings I described above and have attached it here. I added a title to prove that I produced this version.

The bitrate is 16.7Mbps and it's 189MB in size, so pretty close to the original and certainly not 3x bigger. It has the same scar as the original, and it can be downloaded from OneDrive here.

This is what I did
1. I downloaded 360 video from Youtube by MediaHuman youtube downloader.
2. I cutted the video by Vidcutter (github.com/ozmartian/vidcutter/releases). I use this software because it simply cut video without converting. Simple and fast.
3. I imported above cutted video into PD17, and produced it without editing for testing.

I have not done anything, but now I see 4K selection (strange.. maybe PD17 is not stable)
So I am producing now. We will see what file size it becomes..

...now it stopped when "99% rendering". I waited for 20 mins (altogether 2 hrs) so I will do it again. And then freeze again when rendering 0%.

Hi fasdfas -

I found that Mosel River video on YouTube and downloaded it myself. In PDR, it behaves exactly the same as your cut-down version.

optodata - neither the YouTube video nor fasdfas's cut version exhibits tearing (here) in PDR or GoPro VR Player... but your produced version does.

See this unlisted screen capture...

Still, getting back to the original question, despite the fact that there's something amiss with the downloaded Mosel video, in PDR's Produce module, all the 360 production options shown in optodata's screenshot are available.

Cheers - Tony

Let me go back to original
1. I wanted to select 4K resolution. SOLVED. Somehow the selection start to appear on pull down menu.
2. I wanted to keep same or less file size by PD without editing. NOT solved.
When long 4K 360 video was cut to 1.5 min by Vidcutter, it became 163MB (and then it became 576MB by PD without editing).
When same long video was cut to 1.5 min by PD, it became 280MB. (H265HEVC 3840x2160/24p 37Mbps)

Now I am meeting new problem.
3. It often stop while rendering.
Spec. Windows10 64bit, Intel celeron N3350 1.10GHz, RAM 4GB, Intel HD graphics500, 35GB free HDD space.

The issue with file size is all to do with video bitrate, as optodata has explained.

The video you downloaded from YouTube is AVC H.264 3840x2048/25p @ 14.1Mbps. Using Vidcutter, the VBR was kept at 14Mbps, but when you produced the cut down version in PDR, the file size increased 3x because of the video bitrate selected. If you chose the 3840x1920 (50Mbps), you'd get a bigger file (~300Mb) because of the VBR.

optodata provided a custom profile, where the VBR ~16.5Mbps. That produced a similar sized file. All you need to do is click on the + button to adjust the video bitrate.

It's good that the correct produce options have reappeared!

Cheers - Tony

Your computer will have a hard time processing 4K video. It's simply not powerful enough, and 4GB of RAM is probably too low to have any other apps open when producing. Using shadow files may help, but you will need to let PD finish creating them each time you want to edit a new project.

Can you also please follow the steps in the Read Me Before Posting sticky thread to run the DxDiag test and attach the results here? That will tell us much more about your system and how it's configured.
