Should files be compressed before bringing into PD 16

Hi all:
The files that I end up with after taking videos are large. Would it be better to compress them via Handbrake or whichever before bringing them into PD16. I know this doesn't have to be done, but would it be better to do so?

See this sticky: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/63543.page#post_box_289537 . Put a clip on the timeline. Highlight it and do a right mouse click and click view properties. Attach a screenshot of the properties windows.

You may not need to compress the video first.
