Remove & Move Clips on the Same Track/All after Removed Gap

PD 14. Sitting on the Timeline with gap selected, the right click shows both of these 'gap closing' possibilities greyed out. This Video Track (Track 2) is enabled. On lower tracks it is possible to remove a gap and move 'All After'. Track 1 (another video) has been deleted and restored but same Track 2 issue.

I created another small project to test this feature and all gaps can be correctly filled so it seems only an issue with my current project.

PD14 has been restarted & pc several times but this function still does not operate.

Any ideas on what maybe the cause please.

I don't really understand what you're seeing.

In PD14, if I right-click in the gap on a track (where there is content to the right) I see both options Remove options:

If I click in the same spot but on another track where there is no content to the right on that track, the Remove options are not present:

I can't find any situation where the Remove options are present but are grayed out.

Please post a screenshot of your timeline. You can use the PrntScrn key to capture the entire monitor, including the pop-up menu, or (if you have Win10) hold down Win + Shift + S and draw a rectangle around the content you want to capture.

Either way, open Paint (or other image editor) and paste the screenshot, then save it and attach it here using this forum button below the reply text box.

What RonH stated rings a bell here. I thought that he might be using PD11 so I checked it in PD9 and PD12. The options are different in those two earlier versions of PD.

See the attached. 1. In PD12 delete a clip by Remove and leave gap and then the options are available. 2. If a clip is placed to the right of an existing clip the right click on that space show the two options are not available (grayed out).

This behavior is fixed in PD14 and later versions to allow deletion of empty space between two clips regardless of the circumstances from memory and is what optodata shows.

Thanks for your replies. I will take a screen shot tomorrow to illustrate my meaning. I have been using PD14 for some years so am familiar with the 2 possible operations to delete empty spaces. But it's not functioning for my active project though I have tested it OK by starting another trial project.

My active project is presently small but is it possible that something previously entered on the track could cause this issue? Or a memory issue? I deleted temp files. CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)

Having spent a sleepless night I think my best policy is to finish and produce this edit section and start a new edit for compiling later. I can only conclude 'gap priblems' are something do do with entries in this edit.

Don't want to waste more of your time on this but I will post if this issue continues.

Thanks for taking time out.

(Just out of interest I have (hopefully) included the PD14 screen shot which shows this problem)

Two things. To get a better understanding of what's happening we'd need to see the actual timeline, as in which clips are arranged in which order.

Even better would be to use File then Pack Project Materials... to save the entire project to a cloud folder on OneDrive, Google Drive, DropBox, etc. and then share the link here so that we could open the project and see what's really going on. I can send you a link to my OneDrive account if you don't have easy access to a cloud service.

I know you're ready to move on, but these steps shouldn't take much of your time and we may actually end up with a solution for the issue.

Thanks for your continuing support.

Yesterday I Produced this Edit and started the next section, clean. Produced OK and current Timeline functioning correctly. To avoid any possible 'contamination' I deleted the faulty Edit and cleared the temp files.

Should I experience this specific problem again I will post & perhaps then would be a good time to revisit possible causes. Most likely it was something I corrupted on the Timeline and not a system issue; it's been some months since I last used PD. I even had forgotten how to post an image on the forum ... took me 3 goes before the 'cogs' clicked in to remind me that you don't get to see that the image link is actually present when previewing the post!
