You can "Produce" to any storage device, but it may take significantly longer if you have a slow USB stick/drive.

If you're working with HD or lower res clips, USB 2.0 is probably fast enough, but with 2k/4k clips you might want the higher bandwidth that USB 3/3.1/3.2 provides.

Another factor is that many inexpensive USB sticks are very slow to write to, regardless of which USB version they are built with or are connected to. If you have the write specs, that's the best way to tell. Otherwise, you can test a bunch of them by copying a large file from an internal drive using File Explorer and choose the drive(s) that can accept the copied file the fastest.

my aim is to produce my project with all fades & text etc, have the play & scene option etc, just like when you create a dvd etc .... i did 1 test and the tv said can not support the AVI file so that didnt play ..... i managed to get the original footage playing from the usb but it still had all the bad bits that needed editing etc ....

the manual that came with pd10 does not really explain how to save to usb - im sorry - not that clued up on modern pc etc, dvd create i can do but cant see how to get a video to play from the usb stick etc

Ok you're simply wanting to get a playable video that you can watch on your TV. The key is to understand what formats your TV can play.

Chances are it can play MP4 if it's a fairly recent model, so just produce a test clip to your USB stick and see if your TV can play it. If not, you'll need to find the manual or look up your TV's model # online to find that supported file types, then produce to one of those.

In the Burn in 2D/Final output window you can browse to the usb thumb drive and check Create a folder. This should eliminate the step to need to create a dvd-rw and then write those files to the usb thumb drive .

In the past I did just that. Used my HTPC. Mounted the usb drive with Power2Go. Played it with PowerDvd. You can use VLC to do the same thing for free. With Win 10 now you don't need P2Go anymore to mount the drive anymore and play it to your HDTV. This allows chapter selections.

If you choose avchd instead of dvd then you can use the drop down arrow to choose the usb thumb drive instead of a 4.7 GB dvd. That would be a high resolution that can be played to your HDTV using a HTPC. Again you would chapter selections. I have this too in the past.
