To whom it would concern,

I recently downloaded the trial for PowerDirector17 in an interest to purchase the product. However, whenever I attempt to open the application, it displays a message that states, "Cyberlink PowerDirector cannot launch because an important program component is unavaible. Try reinstalling the program".

I have reinstalled the program at least five times until I admitted defeat, in worry that I'd end up harming the program's files even more. I've searched the files but I haven't seen anything that's obviously out of place. I'm very eager to begin using the program, but it won't able me to do anything(including clicking off the page without closing the program). I would buy the entire thing, but I am concerned that buying the product won't fix the problem, and end up being an complete waste of money.

If anyone knows how to fix this, please contact me as soon as it's convenient. Thank you, and have a great day!

My computer is a Windows 10 if that's helpful to anyone.

If you are trying to upgrade the Trial to a paid version, you can not do that, You must uninstall the trial version and download the paid version from the links you are given in the Email.

Also be sure your malware program is not preventing Powerdirector download and install. Carl312: Windows 10 64-bit 8 GB RAM,AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHz,ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB,240GB SSD,two 1TB HDs.

Thank you so much for the helpful advice! I made sure that PowerDirector could get through the malware programs(including the firewall), however, it still is not working. I think making sure PowerDirector could get through fixed part of the problem, but not the entire thing. Do you by any chance have any other tips/instructions on what may possible fix the problem altogether?

Thanks so much!

You can't damage any files or your PC by reinstalling anything, but since you've already tried several times, I don't see the point in continuing.

I also understand your reluctance to buy and then try to install the full version, since you may very well experience a similar problem. They do have a 30-day money back guarantee, so you would not ever risk losing money if you couldn't get it to work if you decided to try that approach

Based on your description, one thing you may want to try is to download the free version of Revo Uninstaller Pro and use it after you've uninstalled the trial version of PD to make sure it removes any and all leftover files and settings.

When you run the PD installer again, note where it is downloading the files to (click on the Open File Location button), because there may already be several versions there and you may want to delete all of them to make sure you get a clean copy.

When the download is finished and you see this screen:

Click on Later, disconnect your computer from the internet (like put it in airplane mode or unplug the cable) and then turn off your antivirus app and firewall. Google for the specific steps before disconnecting if you're not sure. You will probably need to reboot at least once, so be prepared to launch the "PowerDirector_2314a_...exe" program directly from the saved folder location when your PC is running again.

If there's a conflict with those programs and the trial version of PD, turning them off when you install it should solve it.

Once you can successfully launch PD without any error messages, re-enable all the protective software and let them scan your system. If they find anything, you should be able to whitelist the programs like you tried doing before.

Once everything is running again and PD isn't causing warnings or quarantine messages, you can go back online and everything should work normally.

If these steps don't solve the problem, I think contacting Cyberlink tech support would be your best option. Here is their contact
page. Good luck!
