ShadowFiles

Please someone explain:

1. I assume a shadow file is created in order to speed up editing.

2. When I preview the hd clips in the library (canon legria sf100) with pd8 the quality seems to be very substandard. When I open the clips via the windows explorer using the windows media player there is a great improvement in the quality.

3. How can I view my clips with PD8 while editing in their original quality? Surely a person would wish to see what your final output would be?

The only way I know is if you have a powerful computer and you turn shadow files off in the preferences. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

And explore the buttons below the playback screen, one of which offers playback quality presets if I recall rightly (can't look right now, I'm rendering).

I just re-installed PD8 and noticed very poor preview quality. I then clicked in preferences to use CUDA for processing video and my quality is back to normal again.

My previous instructions about shadow files was not the right answer. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

Thanks Robert,

The option for CUDA blanked out. Not accessible. Maybe something to do with PAL.

Hi Chris,

Sorry it is greyed out, CUDA is an option for people with a capable Nvidia Grahics card. This option passes all of the video previews through the graphics card gpu instead of taxing the computers cpu. When I have mine enabled my preview is virtually the same as my final output.

It also passes the rendering through the Graphics card gpu which really speeds up the rendering process.

cheers
