H.264 playback is standard on the deluxe version.

Yes, but the Add-on Pack for the Standard Version allows the user to use the HardwareAccelearation of some graphic cards.

The DeluxeVersion does this not!

The Deluxe version allows this too!

If your graghics card allows Hardware Acceleration then it can be enabled with the Deluxe version by going to Configuration ->Video tab ->
tick Enable Hardware Acceleration!

The Deluxe Version does this yes!

Totally dependant on the graphics card.

Yes MPEG2 can be accelerated.

But the checkbox is disabled when I'm watching H.264

OK you've got Nvidia GeForce 6600 graphics card. Now you need the Nvidia PureVideo decoder if you want H264 hardware acceleration!

Link to PureVideo:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo.html

Link to PureVideo 30 day free trial:-
http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder_1.02-223-trial.html

Once you have downloaded and installed PureVideo Decoder open powerdvd go to Configuration > Video tab you should now see beside Enable Hardware acceleration in brackets [nVidia PureVideo] tick the box and you should now have H264 Hardware Acceleration for PDVD7 deluxe

This does not make sense. Why would you need the PureVideo codec when you've already bought PowerDVD 7 deluxe ??

If you read the heading this topic it is about H.264 Hardware Acceleration!

Yes the deluxe has H.264 codec as standard as I mentioned earlier.

torbenp was after H.264 hardware acceleration to get that he/she needs PureVideo.

Do you need hardware acceleration to watch H.264 no, but

Is it worth it? If you have a compatible graphics card download it and try it for 30 days free and judge for yourself.

I'd download the latest driver for your graphics card and make sure you have DirectX 9.0c as well.

I was able to play mpeg4/H.264 with PowerDVD 7 Deluxe with hardware aceleration without any problems on my AMD 3200+. I then installed PureVideo and played mpeg4 again, CPU usage wasn't any different when I used nVidia PureVideo decoder, may be slightly less usage.

Do you need to shell out additional $$$ for PureVideo if you already have Powerdvd7 deluxe, I would say no.

You obviously didn't need PureVideo.

It will depend on your computers configuration.

PureVideo I think will benifit those will older systems who want to watch High definition content.

Torbenp has an older graphics card which would probably benefit from PureVideo.

I have on one system a GeForce 4 MX440 that is useless with PureVideo not supported so I can't watch high definition content with it,3 years old!

My only choice is to buy a new graphics card that supports high definition.

If you have a graphics card that is compatible with PureVideo and is of benefit then I guess it is a toss up between buying a new graphics card that supports high definition play back or buying PureVideo.

Will depend on everybodys individual needs.

If you have H.264 Hardware Acceleration without PureVideo then you don't need PureVideo.

If you have a compatible graphics card and you can't view high definition content in high definition, then I'd try PureVideo. It's free to try, if it is of no benifit to you, it's cost you nothing!

And NO I am not connected with nVidia!
