I modified Text but rendering gives me the old version.

OS: Windows 10
PD: 17.0.2314.1

I created a Custom Text of scrolling credits for the end of my video. Later I decided to change some of the wording in the text. Everything looks fine when played in the time line, the modifications all appear just as they should. Then I produce it and when I view the rendered movie the text is the old, unmodified text.

I've deleted the Text from my timeline, changed the name of the Text file and, put it back on my time line and STILL I get the old text. I've also manually deleted all shadow files, rebooted my system, rendered over and over, and cussed a LOT.

Also, and maybe this relates, the rendered file is missing about 3 minutes of my project. Those three minutes display perfectly when viewed on my time line. I see nothing whatsoever out of the ordinary at the point on my time line when they disappear from the finished product.

I just bought PD a week ago after becoming fed up with Shotcut and so far I love it. However, this problem is making me crazy. Surely there must be some sort of cache file I know nothing about that needs deleting. One, other thing that may or may not pertain: the section that contains the two problems are both in a chunk of PDS that I merged onto the end of my main project. I went back to that project and added the scrolling text (which it did not previously have) , rendered it, and the text was the new modified text. Also it did not lose the three minutes.

Any help offered this PD newby is most appreciated.

This sounds very frustrating, and fortunately I don't think it's a typical experience. It sounds like you've already done this, but carefully read the solution here and make sure you do the same thing.

The other thing that rings a bell is that you might using nested projects when you say that you merged a chunk of another PDS at the end.

If you used Insert project and you see the nested project's name along the top of the timeline near the left side, please know that once you insert a project, you're actually only inserting a COPY which is permanently disconnected from the original, and any changes you make in one WILL NOT affect the other. You will need to delete the inserted project and replace it with the updated original for the changes to show up in this project.

If you aren't using inserted/nested projects, then it sounds like you could just produce the other project first, and then import that clip and add it to the end of this project's timeline rather than messing around with copying part of another project. Part of my K.I.S.S. approach to editing

Optodata, much thanks for the reply. Yes, I had tried getting rid of the "ghosts" as described in that post. I had high hopes for success, unfortunately, they were not realized. I looked at nesting top to bottom, I'm pretty sure I've got a decent handle on it, unfortunately, that understanding didn't lead to a solution either.

I had really, really hoped to discover the source of the problem as that would prevent a recurrence. After another full day of hitting dead ends I have this evening simply deleted that entire nested bit of footage and am punting. I hate jerry rigging anything but I'll be putting bits and chunks from the compiled nested video, etc, into the main video. Pretty much starting from scratch on that area. It's all cool. It's a learning experience.

Again much thanks for the response. If ever I do come to understand what the heck happened here I'll for sure post it.

I like your attitude about this being a learning opportunity, and I'm sorry that I wasn't able to get your issues resolved.

I think there are quite a few pieces missing in my mental model of what's been going on, like the details about the nested project and missing 3 minutes, etc. Also, the way you described the merge sounds like something you'd do as an edit in a text/xml editor rather than on the timeline inside PD, but maybe I'm grasping at straws here.

If you were comfortable sharing the actual clips and project, you can use File | Pack Project Materials... and save everything to a cloud folder then post the link here. I don't imagine that I'd see the ghost text if I were to work on the project - but I actually might.

Either way there would probably be enough info to understand what's going on under the hood if you decide to do some more probing here. If you've definitely moved on that's OK, too!

Wow, I didn't know about the ability to do a File/ Pack Projects kind of thing. Yep, I'm learning here! Much thanks for that. Unfortunately when I decided to move on with a fresh start, I did the jilted lover kind of thing in that I wholesale deleted much material, pics, etc. Wahed that rascal outa my head. The good thing is I now know that the option is available should I need it in the future. Again, much thanks.
