Hi,

I'm (still) using PDR 14.

I use Route Generator v.1.7.1, which I have used for many years, to make avi files to illustrate my travel routes.

I have not previously had trouble loading these avi files into PDR, so why now?

I enclose Media Info for the avi file and the error message.

Hope one of you are able to solve my problem.
Thanks in advance, Anja

Hi again,

I still would like ti know why I get the problem mentioned.
And why PDR don't accept the avi files.

But I owe to tell you:
I converted alle the avi files to mp4 files (using HandBrake) and these files I can load in PDR with no problem.

Cheers, Anja PDR 14.0.4207.0 / Windows 10 64-bit / Asus / Intel i7-4790 3.60 GHz / 16GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / DirectX 12

Route Generator is the one most recommended by users. Just tried it out with a new map. The generated out.avi loads and runs as expected on the timeline. See the PD14 screenshot. Attached is the out.avi that should import and run properly.

It is possible that you may need to contact Cyberlink Support to help diagnose what may have changed on your pc if the attached out.avi file does not work or else reinstall route generator to test.

AVI is just a container. (An abbreviation of "Audio Video Interleave")
So the quesion is, whats in the AVI. In your case there is only a video stream, encoded with a H.263 encoder with the codec_id FMP4. I think, that is an older XVid-coded video (even though the writing application Lavf57 sounds a bit like opensource, like ffmpeg...), but I don't know. There are dozens of codecs, that can be used in an AVI container. So your way was completely right. Convert it, if it can't be read by your application with a bitrate, that is as least the same as the original video, in this case more than 2440 bps, in order to not loosing much quality. The other information for the converter (frame size, fps, etc) are in the MediaInfo information.

Hi Berry and Tomas,

Nice that both of you still react on what is going in 'earlier versions'. thanks.

I'm running Windows 10 64-bit Ver. 1809 Build 17763.134

Windows installed from scratch 14-11-2018 - clean installation - a few days later I installed pdr14.

I've looked of your attachments Tomas, yes it's like it used to be for me - but not now....
Earlier I also had PDR11+13 installed, but that shouldn't make the difference when I run PDR14.

Ofcause I wonder if it could be something caused to Win10 or to my PDR installation. Ought not to be the PDR because I have (re)installed this quite some times, in eariier Wondows versions. But Windows updates sometimes gives problems which shall not be mentioned here.

Thomas,
you mention Cyberlink Support - don't know hwat to say in english - but my expirence is I get an auto answer several times and it dosn't seem that anybody read my post. May bee it's better today?
And yes Tomas - I think I'll try to uninstall and reinstall PDR when I have finished my present project

Hatti,
thanks for reply, yes, I know avi is a container. And I know that PDR don't handle VFR - actually I wrote about this problem in a post some years ago.
When I look in the Media Info file which I attached it dosn't seem to be the problem. Also, earlier I didn't have problems with Route Generators avi files, just like Tomas.

For now, cheers, Anja PDR 14.0.4207.0 / Windows 10 64-bit / Asus / Intel i7-4790 3.60 GHz / 16GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 / DirectX 12

PowerDirector 16 crashes when loading "02_XiAn_Jiuquan high HST.avi".
There seem to be no difference, but I presume, it is the size of the video. My hair got high, when I saw the dimension: 1705x959. These are odd numbers. As far as I know a video dimension must be a multiple of 8 or 16. That can never be odd.
VLC plays it without problems.
Try to resize it and create clips, that are at least even dimensions. As I said, just a guess.

I agree with Hatti that the pixel size is the problem. It didn't crash PD17 for me, but I got the same error as you, Anja.

I used VLC to convert the clip to 1920x1080 as an MP4, and I can now work with it in PD. Hopefully the attached file will work on your computer also.

If there is an option to set the output profile in Route Generator to a standard value, try setting that when you make another route. This one appears to be based on the exact dimensions of the map you had in the app, and that seems to be what caused the problem.

Hi Anja -

Like Hatti, "02_XiAn_Jiuquan high HST" wouldn't import into PDR14 here. It just stopped working.

MediaInfo suggests your 2 videos have very similar properties. Maybe that odd resolution is the issue (???)

You already have the conversion workaround. Another option is to load the sequence of .BMP files (made by Route Generator) with duration set at 00:00:00:01 or 00:00:00:02 and produce the video.

Yes Hatti - the resolution IS the issue. I just made an .AVI in Route Generator with the same resolution - 1705x959 - it imported into PDR14, appeared in the media library with a green edge, then PDR14 crashed when I put it in the timeline. The .BMPs imported without a problem.

Cheers - Tony

With Route Generator, that's what you get. The resolution of the original image becomes the video resolution. I can find no option to modify preferences here.

Hi,
Thank you all.

My PDR14 don't crach - just show an error message.

Still strange because when I convert the avi to mp4 with handbrake there is no problen even if the dimention isn't changed. And I don't get any green edges.

Windows movieplayer shows the avi perfect?

Thanks again - good to know what causes the problem.

Merry Christmas and Happe New Year to all of you

Cheers, Anja
