Help! Production and Burning Questions...

I am a newbie at using Power Producer... I tried to produce my video but have some questions:

1. Which kind of file should I create my movie under? I am trying to just burn my video in a DVD that would play in a regular DVD player... Does it matter if it is an AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, etc?

2. I initially produce it under MPEG-2 (still unsure if this was the right format) but the PowerDirector program "encountered a problem and had to close" after I tried to burn it. Does that mean that I have to reproduce again? It took an hour to complete the first time just before the program closed so I'd hate to waste the time again to reproduce if the initial production was already done (meaning, when I reopen the program, can I just directly go to "Create a Disk"?) I unfortunately did not save after I was done producing...

Thanks again for your help.

My computer is running on a Windows XP program. (In case this is relevant.)

Lucy -

Is it PowerProducer or PowerDirector you're using? Sounds like the latter.

It would be useful to have a look at these video tutorials... the first is probably most relevant to your question.

Create a File
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvLeatoByCc

Create a Streaming File
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Oqs2ksUDyo

When you select a profile for production, you'll see its properties & a description in the box. Here is what one member (pjc) advised about profiles/burning (no.3 is for you):

"So I edit with PD and
1. render to Mpeg2 BD profile for local playback as this consistently gives the best quality.
2. render to AVCHD and burn to DL DVD for hybrid disc for family/friends with Blu-Ray players
3. render to Mpeg2 BD profile and then use completely different software to produce SD DVDs for family/friends who don't have Blu-Ray players"

When you produced the file (before PD had to close) was there a file made in My Documents titled (by default) Produce_???

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the helpful response and the youtube links.

After I checked the files in My Documents, I did find a Produce (mpeg) file. Can I just burn it from there? I tried to open it using Windows Media Player and got an error message. Hope I didn't screw anything up.

Thanks!

The "Produce" file should play correctly in WMP... not sure what the issue is.

Try opening a new PD project - import the "Produce" file. 1. Is it the file you wanted? 2. Does it play in the preview window? If you get a yes & a yes, burn from your new project.

Cheers - Tony

To be simple - to create a DVD to play in a 'regular DVD player" requires MPEG-2 format; the file always comes up in 'Documents/ 'Produce - X.mpg' when you create the file in preparation for disc burning (unless you are clever and change the standard things around!). However, from there there appears to be some problems with software if you are mixing formats, or have longer than 'ten minute' clips (or something yet to be defined!!!) - e.g. mixing old videos with new AVCHD for instance. I have a problem using vers. 7 which has gone through to the Cyber R & D people so dont be dismayed if something peculiar seems to be happening like - 'cant proceed because PD cant form an image' etc.
- keep trying and it will come out eventually!

hi there, sorry for my english, hope someone can help me.
I use PD7 and i have several problem when i create a dvd with menu.
When i burn dvd it seems ok but around 58% and sometimes 78% PD stop and shows this message: (i try to translate)
Burn process stopped. Error code a000000a
first i tought it was a matter of mz dvd, but i create cd/dvd audio and video using ogher programs it works, so i really don't understand why with PD not. ( i was able to create only one Dvd )
Same error message appears even if i chose "create a dvd folder" instead of a dvd.
Can someone help me?
Please....
Thanks

Let's try to do mpg files from your project first (using PRODUCE option)and then try to make a DVD (using CREATE DISC)
If my answer is not satisfied (let me know) I will try to describe it more detailed.
