My lenovo ideapad laptop's media button (on keyboard) works perfectly with powerdvd.
My laptop has Play/Pause, Stop, Next, and Previous.
I don't know if your keyboard media button is "perfectly" compliant to standard or Windows media button command.
If your keyboard's media buttons support customized command, check powerdvd's hotkeys in program settings, and then customize your keyboard to do it.
VLC is a great free/open source media player that supports most of media formats. But, powerdvd is commercial software.
VLC doesn't have the compatibiltiy to play commercial licensed DRM BD or 4K BD because it applies free/opensource license.
They are under different software development models.
If you already paid for powerdvd, it must have somethings you want and VLC doesn't support it.
