Weird effects in output video

Reposted here so it doesn't get lost in the PD 6&7 forum.

For a while now depending on what I actually do to my footage I have been getting very clear renders and very bad renders with artefacts in them.

I haven't fully tested it but I think it only effects my 720p 60 frames/sec video.

1. If I only use the Video enhance effect at the default setting, in other words I do not touch the slider I get a good render. See screen shot 18

2. If I add any other effect to the Video enhance or sometimes even just push the slider a bit further towards the right I get the artefacts. See screen shot 19.

I have also included a screen shot from the original raw footage out of the camera.

Screen shot 18

Screen Shot 19, notice the problem it looks as though it is rendering the video in interlaced mode instead of progressive. No it is not because of a fast pan or only particular frames, it is the same where ever I grab the screen shot from or whether I grab the screen shot while the video is running or pause the video to take the screen shot.

If you have a look at the original sized video here you can see what it really looks like.

Raw footage out of the camera.

Dafydd I didn't post then in png format as they were too big to fit into the 100kb requirements of the site.

Any ideas people on what is going on or what I can do to get the same quality render when I add extra effects. I especially like to add a bit more blue to my hang gliding videos because of the blue sky etc but at the moment I can't if I want to use the video enhancement effect, which I must say does a good job.

Cheers

I did some further testing this morning and it seems that it is the combination of panning and video enhance plus colour temp.

1. Panning with video enhance effect only....no problem

2. Panning with video enhance & colour temp.....weird effects

3. Non panning video with video enhance effect only ....no problem

4. Non panning video with video enhance & colour temp....no problem

So in effect I cannot use 720p 60 frames/sec in my flying if I want to use more than one effect in PD8.

So now I cannot use 1920X1080 or 720p 60 frames/sec I know it is not entirely PD's fault but man I wish someone would come out with either a standard format or a program handles the ones we have.

One note I have found a free program that will split my native Mp4 Sanyo videos and re-combine them in Mp4 without re-encoding which may end up the way I go for my videos and just forget about the fancy effects.

Cheers

Further testing.....it appears the weird effects are only when rendering to h.264, render to .wmv and it looks normal, there is hope yet. Although rendering to .wmv I loose some quality compared to h.264.

Hmmm - is it merging frames as part of the processing, I wonder?

Just from the stills, I'm not sure that I see the use of using the 'enhance' thing anyway, but presumably you see the need at your end!

Hi Peter, if you compare the 1st screen shot with the last one you can see the difference in contrast, especially along the road, plus video enhancement adds a bit of sharpening to the video as well which shows up with the water. It looks more apparent in the video rather than the screenshot.

Robert, there is always the option of using one effect on the original and then adding the other effects on the previously rendered file and rendering a second time. I realize that this is twice the processing time and there is the possibility of further degraded video. This is not the ideal solution, but it might get you there depending of the output. Thanks James, I actually just tried that and yes done separately one at a time I do get a clean result with this video.

However what a pain, especially if there is more than 2 effects I want to use, like stabilization, which is something I need every now and then. Bottom line is PD should do it in one pass.

I say again HD video editing needs a governing body to put their foot down and demand a standard format to save the editing programs having to jump though so many hoops to get each different format working!! My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn
