Running my Desktop using a GeForce 8400 card I would have a very jerky picture in the viewer, this would be worse at the point of any PIPs or special effects. So what I did was to upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB and my graphics card to a 9800GT. Now when editing my project, the viewer will simply not show any PIP's or will freese at the point of the PIP. I am hoping that this is just a setting somewhere - any advice or suggestions will be great , thanks.

A couple of thoughts.

1. Unless you are running vista 64bit your computer will only see and use 3 gig of your 4 gig.

2. My TV card has a problem with 4 gig of ram but will work fine with 3 gig.

3. I use Vista 32bit with a 9800GT with no problems.

What might work is an uninstall and re-install of PowerDirector, there are instructions on how to do this cleanly on this site, a search will find it for you.

I'm using a 9500GT and I have no problems with PD. I would try reinstalling the video driver and perhaps PD as well. Q9300 2.5 GHz

Do you have the CUDA GPU accelerations for effects turned on in preferences?

CUDA version 2.3 is installed?

Hmmm. Tom's hardware did testing with PD7 and they used a 9600GT and a 9800GTX with no problems:

Nope - re-install did not help. I am running a Intel Core Duo 2 E4500 @ 2.20GHz - Vista 32bit and 4GB DDR2 memory - So after spend just under £200 upgrading my memory and Graphics card , it looks like it is the CPU that need upgrading to ..... What really gets me , it that on a same spec Laptop I have no "problems" viewing my project , it's just very slow in rendering and this is why I decided to move to the desktop.....

Hey Andrew,

What type of camera are you recording with? Do you have trouble with the default aquarium video? Do you have ffdshow installed? I'm beginning to wonder if there is more to this than just hardware. CUDA will only take effect if you are trying to render a mp4 AVCHD file. Q9300 2.5 GHz

I would download the vReveal trial software from Nvidia and test out whether or not the CUDA is enabled.

To do this install the trial software. Then use the oneclick enhancement of a video clip. If CUDA is working, you'll see a message saying how many minutes that the graphics card saves in processing time. Win8 64-bit Pro Retail
