creating DVD folder problem

when I try to create a dvd folder, the window appears that shows the progress of the burning process, but it never burns. And I have let it go for hours with no results. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

It's not happy, is it?

Firstly, I would save your project, close PD7, restart the PC - then try again.

If that doesn't clear it up, we'll investigate further.

yes, I have done that several times already with no success. Even though I have a new laptop, I'm wondering if there's just not enough capacity for this.

If you post the specs of your laptop, I'm sure one of the tech-types (not moi) will advise you about that. Video editing is a demanding task, but I am sure we can beat it.

I tried something different that actually worked, being that my pc doesn't have the capacity to run this program. I connected an external hard drive(My Book) and transferred my edited video to it. Then I imported the edited video to the PD7. From that point, I was able to burn the DVD folder, and then burn to DVD's as well.Success! Thanks for your suggestions! Keep on strummin'!

So if I'm undertstanding you correctly Deb, originally you were trying to burn the project to DVD while the raw video files were on an SD card connected to your computer. I'm not sure anyone would have had success this way. Most of us transfer the raw video files to a more functional drive (My Book works great) on our computer before beginning a project. SD drives are mostly used for transferring files & also some limited functionality (view pixs,docs,etc,)
Once you had the files moved to My Book & redirected the file path so PD could find them, it sounds like burning became easy.

Maybe true in Debbi's case but not universally true. My SD cards are just as fast as an external hard drive through USB, both are limited by USB 2.0 speeds. It really depends on what class of SD card you buy and the manufacturer. I often burn a quick DVD folder straight from my SD card with PD7.

For any real editing the external USB drives are often too slow as well, ~15MB/sec read speed so one is often much better working with video on an internal drive ~70-90MB/sec and use the external drive as a pack and store drive. Unless of course your external is esata or firewire. Internal notebook drives are usually around ~50-60MB/sec.
