SPDIF Output PowerDVD - How to fix after update

No guarantees on this but it worked for me. Indicates a serious long running bug in PDVD.

Conditions - SPDIF output to legacy receiver, Nothing plugged in to speaker ports.

Workaround.

Verify spdif connected to amp and amp turned on
Uninstall Audio Device (resets to supported defaults)
Restart Computer
Audio Device will reinstall
Verify 48Khz in supported formats
Plug anything (headphones or just miniplug end) into speaker outs on sound card
Start PDVD
Select Speakers as output device
Start DVD title
Wait for title to begin with selected audio
Change to SPDIF as output device
Sound should now be coming from SPDIF
Set SPDIF as default output device for windows
Done.
Should survive PDVD crashes and system reboots
OK to disconnect whatever you plugged into speaker out.

FYI: I have received no support from Cyberlink on this problem.

One question:
What exactly do you mean by uninstall audio device?
This is in Control Panel?

For advanced users only! I am not providing support on issues that may arise from any action taken without a full understanding of OS device managment.

Right Click Computer
Manage
Device Manager
Sound, video and game controllers
Right Click Audio Device
Choose Uninstall

Running Win7 x64 here...

Had to disable the Speakers in the playback devices list...then PDVD would output to SPDIF. Had to select SPDIF in PDVD too of course.

Works with PDVD playing or before running the program.

Go figure...

The issue I am having seems to be specific to my PDVD 9. I am getting audio with the computer speakers and through my HDMI cable to my TV.
When I switch to SPDIF (switching in control panel, with other output options disabled, and PDVD) there is no signal. This is the same if I use Cyberlink trough Windows Media Center.

I know know the SPDIF output is working as I can use it for all other system audio (music, games. etc.). The receiver is set to automaticy select input signal and I did try to adjust is manually.

I am using the onboard Realtek ALC889A codec audio for anolog (computer speakers) and SPDIF and the video card for HDMI.

My System:

Op system - Vista Home Premium 64bit
Processor - AMD Phenom II 940
MBoard - Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H
Harddrive - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2
RAM - OCZ Reaper DDR-1266 - 8gb
Video card - Gigabyte Radeon HD 4890OC
B/R Drive - LG CH08-LS10
DVD Drive - LG GH22NS50
CPU Cooler- OCZ Vendetta 2
Pwr Supply- OCZ GameXStream 850W
