Hello again

I continue to enjoy this program immensely ; )

I burned a DVD of a 4:3 dv video and the result had letterbox bars and black bars on both size, resulting in a smaller version of the video. Is there a setting in PD7 that I overlooked?

Hi Jeff,

Sounds like the aspect ratio of your project is 16-9.

Check by selecting Edit - Aspect Ratio when you click on the director's chair in the top left corner.

16-9 is now the default project size for PDR7 in this new HD world we are living in . So you need to double-check if you are using 4:3 video.

Regards,
David

There is a simple workaround to correct 4:3 project files to 16:9 which i wrote up on the CyberLink Forum some time ago.

Open a pds file in a text editor, Notepad or word pad,
Look at the seventh line down
Look for Aspect Ratio
Alter the TRUE or FALSE to change between either 4:3 and 16:9

You can of course correct a 16:9 to 4:3 if you want.

Tangential thought. A black surround negates the loss of frame image when displayed on a TV.

Thanks guys! You're amazing!

I changed the aspect ratio to 4:3 but was surprised to see that I needed to restart the project. Or was I surprised? ; )

Sorry in advance, I know this is probably an easy fix, but I can't get it.

I'm sending my 16:9 videos out to regular DVD via PD8. When I play the output on an old 4:3 television set, the DVD menu is letterboxed like it should be (I can see the full extent of the 16:9 image that I placed in the menu background). The movie, however, is not letterboxed and the edges, of course, are trimmed off. When I play the DVD on my newer, widescreen set, everything is great (as expected).

Is there a PD8 fix for this, or is this a limitation of the old 4:3 television that I'm testing with? Thanks. Reggie
