I'm trying to import from a Sony Handycam. I imported some videos on Saturday without a problem, but now when I try to import a video I recorded on Sunday the software won't even recognise the camcorder. It is connected to my pc with an i link cable.

Any ideas anyone????

Hi Kathryn -

I guess you've already tried restarting with the camera plugged in... that often works with many devices. There is no reason I can think of that would make PD7 "change its mind" like that.

Cheers -

Hi Kathryn,

At the risk of bad news, please read this post and Bif's subsequent post :-

There may be other reasons but it is sometimes difficult to tell.

Let us know what OS and system you are using and maybe someone will be able to offer another way to check. ie if the firewire port on the computer is functioning, etc. Normally windows would be able to 'see' the camera but exactly how to check depends on your OS.

Basically you need to check if it's PD that is malfunctioning, if its your computer i link, your i link cable, or the i link on the camera.

Normally, you could do that by putting your camera on another machine, or vice versa, trying another cable etc etc

There is a potential problem that if your computer or camera port is 'shorted' it may, only may, affect any other firewire/i link component attached to it. So borrow another camera to test from someone you know well/ who has good insurance.

Hope its not that.

Cheers
Adrian
