Nothing but a black screen in PD15

Google "convert mkv for powerdirector" yeilds all kinds of converters but why won't PD work with MKV natively.

YouTube/FB convert fine.

VLC fine, tried to convert to MP4 (in VLC) but still same black screen.

What to do?

I got a black screen as well - ran it through vlc to convert to mp4 and it works OK as such.

Yeah, we have a den in a abandoned culvert in our front yard, 5 kits. Someone is definitely missing a chicken.

Would you mind sharing the exact VLC convert settings you used. I have not been successful with what I have tried.

Hi Paul -

I don't know whether these are the same settings Longedge used, but they work.

  1. In VLC Player, go to File > Convert/Save [Ctrl+R]

  2. Add your video to the cue

  3. Select Convert [Alt+O]

  4. In the Profile dropdown, select "Video for MPEG4 TV/Device"

  5. Choose destination & file name.

Cheers - Tony

laughing Exactly so - Tony. I have the K-Lite mega pack installed but I don't think that would make a difference as I believe VLC would handle the file with it's included codecs.

There is something out of whack somewhere.. now i get a "shadow file broken or missing" error in PD. But we're gaining on it, your converted mp4 imported and rendered ok.

It's enough to know that the VLC does convert properly... I will keep trying til i get it.

Thanks for your help
