Jeff, you need to give more information.

PC spec?
Hard Drive's space "C" drive and source drives?

Have you uninstalled - re-installed PD?

Vista64Bit
HP Pavilion
8Gb Ram
1 TB hard drive
Only "C" drive

I cannot uninstall and re-install. CyberLink DVD suite came as a bundle already installed. I do not have discs.

What's the video extension/file type? have you installed the correct codec's to view the video?

I am using .mts
I tried converting to .mpg with Any Video Converter but it failed
Presently I am trying to convert it to .mp4 using codec x264

I really have no idea what these conversions are doing to my original video and why I need to be doing them.

I did not know that I needed to install any codecs to PD7. Please advise. Thanks!

Jeff

Update:

The .mp4 AVC file took over 2 hours to convert and it came out blank.
Please help! This transition to HD has been a painful one. This is the second DVD authoring program I have tried.

Ok,
Go to: Here and download the ffdshow drivers.

Please note the location I have directed you to will require you to join (SeeMyWorldOnVideo.com). It has numerous tools for PD video editors and they're free.

Download FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-04-26

I keep clicking on the above reference at the site you directed me to but it just keeps sending me in a loop.

There is no reference to "drivers"

Hi Jeff,

ffdshow has differing varieties depending on your cpu.

EG.
Download [ FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-04-21 SSE ]

Download [ FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder 2009-04-21 SSE - Mirror ]

these are 2 download sites for cpus that support SSE

If in doubt maybe choose the generic one or try this link
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDshow.htm

Should be able to click and the download should start. It is a zip file that needs to be unzipped and installed.

Ok

I have FFDShow. Please help with details. Are these codecs auto-installed? Is this another video converter program?

How do I use this thing?
Am I encoding or decoding?

I have an .mts file and I want to make it work in PD7. Please help!

I think Dafydd was trying to ensure that you had the right codecs installed. ffdshow should do that automatically but you can use it independently/stand alone.

As far as I remember you need to unzip, then run setup and then reboot.

You may then get PD to work if that has been the problem.

Which camera produced the .mts files?

Cheers
Adrian

The original files came from Sony AVCHD HDR-XR520V

The video was rendered through Sony Vegas Pro8

There is a VFW configuration and a Video decoder configuration. Which one do I use?

There is also an Export All Settings button. Will this install Codecs for me?

I have no idea what I'm doing here?

If I remember correctly, I did not do anything specific directly with ffdshow. It installed itself and that was sufficient. I haven't played with any of the settings individually.

So if ffdshow appears as a program (or group) in all programs, I suggest leaving it at that.

Do I understand correctly -

You have files from the Sony already rendered (and edited??) in Vegas into one or more video files that you now want PD to edit into another format/quality with chapters?

and then burn to DVD (I'm not sure what you mean by HD DVD)?

At the moment you can load the .mts files into the media library and then into the timeline but PD will not show past a certain point?

Is this point at the join of 2 clips, is it in the middle of a clip, if the clips have already been rendered in Vegas is it at a particular transition/effect/title?

Can you be as specific as possible as to exactly what you do and what happens when?

Cheers
Adrian

Hello

You may be right! I think just having the program (or whatever it is) on the hard drive might be the "fix". It seems to be working now!

Unfortunately, I have to leave the office for several hours, but when I return I hope to burn a Blu-Ray disc later tonight!

Thanks!
