If I understood you I would see the elapsed time of the clip.
By moving the cursor over the clip and clicking to select it, I have the exact time that the cursor is stopped on the clip.
Does not work for the video clip being played

No. As I wrote, I can choose between movie time and clip time, but I also want to know the time in the file from where the clip the is taken!

When I'm working with preparation of a trailer for some musical or theatrical event I often get requests to change some of the clips, then with references to the original file.
It would be easier to do that if I could be presented the timing where I am, in the file from which the clip was taken, when I drag to expand or contract the beginning or the ending of a clip.
Obviously the program keeps track of it, so why not make it available for the user while editing?

Have you explored the trim/multi-trim function? Would that do what you want?? Ctrl Alt T or Rt click>Edit video>Trim
