Gear 360 Action Director profiles

I have the version that comes with my Samsung Gear 360.
In the list of profiles, I only have one available.
Is this normal? Can I import any others?

At the moment, the only option (whether H.264 or H.265, 25fps or 30fps) is a low 16mbps and the resulting videos look rather dreadful.

I can't believe this is the only "Produce" option available for when you want to edit your videos. Can anyone confirm?

You are right. You cannot define a user profile. I use the software only for stitching, I do the editing process in PowerDirector 16 so I just had a look and saw for the first time, that you are right. But I see better options than you wrote. I have the version "Gear 360 Action Director version 2.0.1807.0) and I have e.g. 3840x1920 in 50Mbps or 2880x1440 in 40Mbps.
And still with 3840x1920 in 60Mbps, the resulting video does not have a good quality:

But I have to say, if you want better quality, you need a very good 360 cam, I saw a cam, assembled from 4 up to 6 GoPro Hero 6. Nice... (the price) or a very good cam, somewhat bigger than a tennisball with 6 lenses. Nice quality for 15.000 euro-bucks. So I even forgot the name of it.

Thanks, Hatti,

That confirms there's something wrong with my software.
I would love to have a 50mbps option.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall from scratch and it hasn't helped.
My originals are 2560x1280, which MAY explain that only the next lowest option is made available.
Do you have any profile resolutions that match 2560x1280?

As for your comment about quality, the stitched files stored locally look acceptable.
I just wish the edited versions from ActionDirector would actually be close to matching the quality of the originals.

Also, since you have a Gear 360 as well, what's with the limitation of 11:28 (11 minutes 28 seconds) on the videos?
Any longer and the camera splits them into those files.
ActionDirector is unable to combine them seamlessly and there's a gap in the audio.

Seems a bit of a silly design to have such a limitation, force you to use software to stitch, which a) doesn't do it seamlessly and b) causes a heavy loss in quality.

Sorry, I've just seen your attachment and opened it.
It shows that the resolutions ARE available.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sfotware but I still only ever have one profile.
I have version number "ActionDirector HE 1.0.0.2005".

Are you able to copy any profiles for me to import, please?
By import, I mean paste using File Explorer.
I'm guessing they're XML files of some kind.
Thanks.

I have the Gear 360 (2016). Are you sure, that you have the version 2.0.xxxxx of the software? It is delivered with the Gear 360 (2017), so you have to download it manually from samsung site. With the Gear360 (2016), the version 1.0.anything was delivered.
I had to buy an expensive, but fast micro-sd card, because the Gear360 is like a diva with slower sd-cards. You can only have 4K with the fast sd-card. Ufff.
And, yes, hihihi, they are "acceptable", but far away from that quality, that I expected from 4K footage. My expectations for 360@4K was (and still are) too high.
The 11:28min boundary is an arbitrarily value of samsung. I don't have any unstiched originals, but I think, it's a 2GB boundary.
I had never seen (or heard) a gap in audio, but I edit the stitched footage in PowerDirector 16. Maybe it is an issue with the Gear 360 ActionDirector. But on the other hand, if you had a look at my sample video, I don't care much about the original audio laughing

And, by the way, sorry, I see no way to copy/paste user profiles. I tried it with my version and I failed...

I'm not sure it's 2GB limit. I use the 2560x1280 resolution (far from being the highest) and I get about 3.6GB for 11:28 of footage.

Anyway, thanks for looking for the profiles on your system.

I've downloaded and update patch and am now on "ActionDirector HE 1.0.0.2423".
I still only have one profile available.

I'll try v2 as suggested. Can I use the same activation code for it?
(I notice your logo on the top left is orange text on white background, as opposed to v1's white text on orange background!)

yes, the activation code should work.
Then, I don't know, what the reason for the 11:28 min limit is.

Thanks for your help, Hatti.

I've installed v2 on a different machine and I now have the remaining profiles.
So I don't know if it's v2 that's fixed it or if it's the other machine that's on Win10.

I'll try it on my original Win7 machine over the weekend.

As for activation, v2 was kind enough to offer me the choice of activation code or serial number of the Gear360. I chose the latter!

I don't have one, but it seems to be an overheating issue that causes the camera to stop then start again - https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Gear-360-Questions-Answers/2017-Gear-360-2-major-recording-issues/td-p/124278

I just checked and the Produce options in AD1 & AD2 are the same for bothe H.264 & H.265, except that AD2 has an extra 4096x2048 profile in each. Screenshot attached.

I think the splitting into separate videos is different to the overheating issue, which stops the video completely on higher resolutions.

As for AD1 and AD2, are they both the Samsung-branded ones that you got from the Samsung website?

Yes - exactly those versions. I don't know that there are any other (???).

The about screens from AD1 & AD2 are attached to show you the exact versions I used for the previous screenshots.

Thanks, ynotfish.
I've just installed v2 on my main Windows 7 (32-bit) system and again, I only have the one profile.
Also, I have no Intelligent SVRT profiles available on Win 7, but I have two custom ones on Win 10.

That shows it's either an incompatibility with 32-bit Windows or it's a problem with Windows 7.

It's crazy that this can be, especially when the software boasts about its "Ultra HD 4K" capabilities in the "About" box.
