Hi
ive been looking on the internet for a solution to this problem, i havent found one, so im writing on here for a hope that it will be fixed.

i have powerDVD retail 9 Ultra and im using it to play bluray to a HD TV via a radeon 4870 (using the HDMI out function- video and audio).

due to dolby HD not being able to transmit via the 4870's hdmi output (PAP being the problem) ive had to re-encode my blurays by ripping them to my harddrive into a MKV file.
As Power DVD doesnt support MKV i have to change the container to .AVI
(Can Cyberlink add MKV to there supported file list?. it cant be that much work to support the MKV container- its just a case of letting power dvd noticing it)

Apart from that the main issue i was having is in the settings, you can change the playback device in the speaker enviroment (under audio).

For me my Vista default playback device is creative SB XFI, my secondary is ATI's HDMI audio.
In powerDVD you can set this default to 'USE HDMI' so it automatically plays sound over HDMI via my 4870 to my HD TV.
If a bluray disk is put in my LG drive it autolaunches Powerdvd and keeps the 'USE HDMI' playback device (all is fine and works well).

However, if i set the .AVI clips to launch powerdvd by clicking on the .avi file; it launches Powerdvd fine and plays back the video, however it loses the 'USE HDMI' setting and changes to vista's default playback device, which is the creative.
If i load powerdvd up first then drag the AVI clip into it, it will keep my 'USE HDMI' setting.
This is annoying as i have to either load up powerdvd first then open up the .AVI- or let the .AVI launch PowerDVD, but change the device to 'use HDMI' evertime.

hope it all makes sense

Can this be fixed or if it has can someone tell me how its sorted?
I just want PowerDVD to keep my speaker enviroment settings when i use the .AVI file to autolaunch it.

thanks

My audio chip is Realtek. (Internal)

is the audio being sent to your vista or xp default playback device anyway??
it will keep my settings if i keep it on my default audio playback in vista. it loses the settings when my default (in vista ) is set to my xfi soundcard but power dvd is outputting to my ATI HDMI (realtek chip on my 4870)

After waiting ages for a reply from a ticket risen with cyberlink, i have now found a solution to the problems experienced.
Ive now returned my power dvd 9 ultra for a refund, i have bought Arcsoft Totalmedia Theatre 3 platinum, its worked straight away with no problems(i took me ages to get power DVD working and waiting on various patches). It also supports .MKV. if anyone else is having problems, i recommend you do the same, i have bought every edition of power DVD from version 6, i will never buy cyberlink again!
