Hi!
I have access to a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera and am unable to import the files into PD14. I took a bunch of test shots over the holiday but now cannot edit them. Help?!

Presumably you've transferred the files to your computer hard drive and it is when you actually try to import into PDR media room that the problem occurs.THIS thread might be relevant (even though it refers to the latest version of PDR) if you've recorded using one of the ProRes formats.

Yes, I've transferred the files to my computer. I guess that thread is a little relevent in that he says he's going to use DaVinci Resolve (Free). I downloaded that program too, but it's so different I didn't want to take the many hours to learn how to use it. But if I do take the time, it's pretty much assured that I'm going to stop using PD because I don't want to take the time to learn all the intricacies of two programs.

Has anybody asked you to check if you have QuickTime installed? PD usually requires QT to handle .movs. If you do download it, download the lite version. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Actually, this looked like the best solution for me! However, when I converted a short clip, the flat color profile was very difficult to grade in PD. I would need to purchase the ColorDirector program to really work with these files. Also, a short 21 second clip was originally 467mb and the converted file was only 6.91mb. The drastic downsampling obviously means that tons of information is being lost before I even edit the footage. Unfortunately, I think the best solution is to learn a whole new program of Resolve and do future editing there. I'm not even sure my older computer can handle that, but I really want to be able to use this camera. It is a gift from my parents!

I mostly make little home movies for my youtubes, but I want to do better stuff in the future. I guess this is as good a time as any to move on!

Hi Rebecca -

I have a number of original sample files from BM cameras, incuding the BMPCC. They all load into PDR14 & playback without a problem. CDR has no issues with them either.

The clips I have from the BMPCC are ProRes 422HQ.

I have QT installed here.

Cheers - Tony

Also Rebecca -

Make sure you have the most recent 4207 patch installed for PDR14. It includes a fix for shadow files generated from MJPEG clips (like your BMPCC). That may be part of the problem.

Cheers - Tony

This doesn't pertain directly to the BM cameras, but it might be helpful as it applies to ProRes (at least 422Lite)...

A little story... I had PD15.0.3929.0 installed on my system prior to a catastrophic system disc crash. This was on a Win 10x64 system which had been upgraded from Win 7. For various reasons, I needed to do a clean install. Prior to the install, I had PD15 happily importing ProRes 422LT (apcs Codec ID). Afterward, it would only see these files as audio files.

Figuring that my problem was that I was missing something installed earlier, I figured I should try QuickTime.
I just installed the QT_Lite_410 "lite" version of QuickTime from Filehippo. Once again, PD15 is happily importing, viewing and editing my file!

WARNING - several versions of QT_Lite_410.exe that I found via Google had virus infections. The one from FileHippo was clean. I always run questionable files through VirusTotal (https://virustotal.com).

Hopefully this helps!
